In my experience nothing works entirely... it's a constant battle to keep the critters at bay in a tropical jungle environment like this, but hey, it belonged to them before we came so we are the real invaders. 
We have a one meter crawl space under our home and had a system installed when it was being built that consists of tubes (kind of like the photos above) but they are attached to the beams of the house with sprayers, aka, upside down lawn sprinklers every couple of meters. The tubes end actually sticking through the wall to the outside of the house where they are capped off with removable caps.
The pest control people hook up a tank with a pressure generator to the tubes (after unscrewing the caps) and spray a liquid poison onto the ground underneath the house for termites and other nasties... just wish it worked for rats!

So far so good, we have used it for 2 1/2 years, no termites although neighbors have had them.
No roaches and they seem to kill the ants now we have upgraded. Don't think you can ever get rid of mozzies as they fly where they choose.
If you phone ask for Joy, she speaks good english.
HH, sorry don't know if they do anything with rats, not had a problem yet, touch wood.
