Thats very interesting. Ive not been to Ao Manao, but had heard of it and the battle.
Caller, isnt there a plane set in the air as a monument? I thought I had seen it in a photo, but I could easily be mistaken?
Great photos, Im going to have to go and visit the museum and beach.
Thanks all for sharing.

Can't recall one set in the air - maybe others can?
But if you look at my 1st photo of the monument, taken from a distance, to the right and behind it, you will see an old aircraft, there were 5/6 altogether, I recall?
Well worth a trip in my opinion.

I haven't been there for a few years but I remember that as you go into the air base there is an OV10 Bronco on display that you drive past. This is an old Vietnam war era turboprop aircraft that the Thais operated for a while.

That aircraft above is a Helio Super Courier, a type that was widely used by Air America during the CIA's secret war in Laos in the 1960's due to it's ability to land on short crude landing strips, often on mountain tops.

Every time I go to Ao Manao beach I am so tempted to turn right as you cross the runway and let rip....A La Top Gear....
