Loi Kratong
huahinjim,
We tried to find that area in Pranburi a couple of years ago but did not. I think Loy Kratong is always better on a river so would really be interested to know more about this location. Is there a way you could post detailed directions or a map of the location where they do this?
Thanks

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
I would fancy Khao Tao lake , one of my favourite spots but Phetburi River also sounds good and they always have excellent food in their night markets..
I will have to make do with a look in at the Wat in Wimbledon this Sunday.
I will only manage about three weeks in Hua Hin this Christmas / New Year - but that sounds better than not at all!

HHF - ok but will draft out first later today. Where is your starting point? Hua Hin? Will you be coming along Petchkasem Road?hhfarang wrote:huahinjim,

We'd be starting on Petchkasem heading south from Hua Hin. We went down there before looking for a likely place on the river like a park or something on the day of Loi Kratong (but earlier in the day) and we couldn't really find any convenient river access point that wasn't full of fishing boats.HHF - ok but will draft out first later today. You could start directions from the Pranburi Tesco if that is a convenient starting point...

I have just come back from the beach and they are erecting a stage behind the Soitel for the festival, now i was thinking it and then the wife come out and said it, the wind direction was a sea breeze south westerly force 2 to 3 as there was white crests breaking on the occasional wave.
If people launch there kratongs they will get washed ashore strait away lets hope the wind direction changes.

Hi HHF - was hoping to have time today to check the route as last time others directed me!hhfarang wrote:We'd be starting on Petchkasem heading south from Hua Hin. Check this map -

using map/ satellite HYBRID option and follow the roads on that map per below.
Coming along Pet Rd from Hua Hin turn left at the Tesco Pranburi traffic lights = road 1020. Continue along over the railway lines and follow the road for about 3kms. Cross over the river bridge and immediately after turn right at the T junction = road 3168. Continue about half a km and turn right again = Rat Bamrung 43. I don't think there is a sign showing this soi number at the junction!! Follow that soi for a km or 2 and if you're travelling later in the afternoon/ early evening you will probably meet a manned barrier. Park and follow the road (the barrier guards should be able to point you in the right direction) towards the station area where the festival takes place beside the river north of the station where the railway bridge crosses the river (I think near the marked Triam Udom school)
This should get you near enough to be able to ask but I'll try a test run Saturday or Sunday to make sure and post back accordingly. Sorry to be not 100%.

Hi hhfarang/huahinjim
There is actually a much quicker way of getting there.
Turn left off Petkhasem at Tesco Lotus as already said.
Just before you reach the railway line mentioned, there's a crossroads.
There is sometimes a market on the right at the crossroads and even if it's not there you should be able to recognise it.
Turn right there and then follow the road round to the left and right.
Soon after that you will see the railway bridge on your left.
Take the very acute left turn at the end of the bridge and that takes you down to the river.
Hope this help.

Thanks Barry. Have done that in the reverse direction after Loy Krathong last year but was not too sure of the way adn didn't want to lead anyone astray! Going that way there will probably be police direting drivers to the school grounds for parking.barrys wrote:Hi hhfarang/huahinjim

Following my directions ends near the Pranburi station where it may be possible to park. Then walk following the road a few hundred metres and you'll get to the festival. Went down there this afternoon and the usual lights etc are already up and ready so you should not have any problems.
Have a good time!
The other option of course is to make a day of it and take the Eco Tour and get off the boat at the river steps by the railway bridgebarrys wrote:Parking in the school grounds is a pretty good option because it's directly opposite the road that leads straight down to the river - just c ouple of minutes walk![]()
