HOSPITAL COSTS
Well in the sticks of Isaan it is slightly different
OK anything remotely serious one has to go the nearest large town. In my case Khon Kaen.
But get hold of this one. Due to my gammy leg and the need to go for a pee at 4 or 5 in the morning and then a shower and shave, my footing is uncertain. Walked into the bathroom and went arse over tit because the wife had been in first and the floor was awash with shampoo suds.
Aching ribs but went back to slumberland. Next day in complete agony I decided to test out the local hospital. This place specialises in Snake/dog and scorpion bites plus motorcycle tumbles and little else.
I was late going so no chance of an xray but a doctor examined me thoroughly and proclained I probable had fractured a couple of ribs. Hefty pain killing injection, medication for the next week (including Paracetamol) and an appointment for 8am the next day for an xray. Total price? 95 Bht
Next day I rolled up for an xray, examination and explanation from the doctor and 2 months medication for the fractured ribs. Total price? 340 Bht
So I guess there is no two tier pricing for Thais and farangs in this part of Thailand.
Asked about in patient prices and was told a private room would cost me 300 Bht per night
No breakdown of costs on the bill so you dont know what the doctor fee is or the inhouse medical treatment or the take away medication but at that price who cares
Downside is that although the hospital/clinic is spotless it is crowded with the local farm workers and who knows whats floating around in the air

I had four days of treatment in the local hospital up here in Isaan (Phon Phisai) for Dengue fever and the bill including medicines, food etc was 2,700 baht. The nursing and medical care was first class and while I hope that I don't have to pay another visit I would have no worries about using the hospital again.

OK Gang, here we go....
Got into SP one afternoon w intense pain in my left lung, and Doc thought lung infection or blod-clot ( a blod-clot!!). Needless to say they didn't let me leave again, and I had all the Xrays, EKG, blood test etc.
so wheeled up to private room, intravenous antibiotics et all.
2 days later blood test said no clot. 3 days later they (finally) do a CT scan ( or whatever it is called ) and result is severe phneumonia. After 6 days I finally feel better and is let go w pills for another 10 days. Many thanks to the well-wishers and visitors. I got 'permission' to leave for 2 h one day, had to leave pp in reception.
I am still not 100%, but am off to BKK this week-end for re-check.
The nurses and facilities were ok, no more. The food was terrible but I guess that's always the case in hospitals. The nurses raided my mini-bar for softdrinks the moment I left the room! No comment on the Doc.
Invoice;
Inpaitent medication 21000
Home meds 1000
Medication special 3520
Med supplies 528
Xray 350
CT 7000
The rest was Lab, Nursing fee, Doc fee, F&B (right!)
Price for the lot: 63000bath (no discount). Thankfully I have an international health insurance.
Amen

Today at 4pm I made a visit to Hua Hin General Hospital (first time) having gashed my shin 6 days ago. Immediately treated with iodine for the next few days but then two days ago wound not healing and starting to weep clear fluid. And today, there slight touch of yellow, so off to hospital.
After waiting about 15 minutes, was ushered into to see doctor. He spoke basic English but we were able to communicate. He looked at wound and asked if I was a diabetic. I said yes.. He then said that is the reason for slow healing (which I already suspected), and prescribed 5 days treatment of an antibiotic. Goodbye to doctor and to the pay counter. Given a bill nursing service Baht 500 and 300 Baht for medicine and 6 days dressing set. Total Baht 800, which thought very reasonable. But more important, he immediately diagnosed the problem.
I was out of the hospital within 40 minutes.

But even 63,000 bt for the number of days you were in the hospital is sure amazing compared to prices here in the states.
I was in for 2 days about 4 years ago, semi private room (one person besides me) and the hospital itself was ~3,000 usd per day (and the food sucked too!!)

Three weeks ago I needed to check a birthmark that had changed colour and went to HH General Hospital about 9 am. They let me by-pass the queue, I saw the doctor then off to the emergency room for a surgery, talked to a second doctor about the need for a pathology test, paid the bill and was out of the hospital within the hour.dtaai-maai wrote:... My Khon Aen experience
I got an eye infection and it worsened quickly so after trying some drops that did nothing I went to a hospital in KK. I arrived, was greeted at the door and when I said I didn't speak Thai they brought an English speaker to me.
First stop was to get a bar code and an ID bracelet. Then up to the 5th floor to the ENT dept. This was done inside of 10 mins. with utmost concern and courtesy. After about 15 mins. I was ushered into the doctor who spoke very good English. He checked me then wrote several slips of paper and sent me across the waiting area to the dispensary.
He had given me 3 prescriptions: a set of pills and two different eye drops with directions.
Total cost for his consultation and the medications was about 800 baht.
My eye cleared up perfectly within three or four days.
