Apparently these small invisible hearing aids have come down drastically in price from what they were years ago.

Well today I went back to the HH specialist off Petcha and Nebkehardt and he confirmed I needed a hearing aid and added that the only place to go was to a specialist in BK or a hospital

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated

True, some of the hospitals fit them, plus there is a hearing aid specialist on Sukhumvit Soi 22 and on Thanon Sukhothai near the King's palace, but only in Bangkok. The only other one I've heard of is in Chonburi and it is affiliated with the one I just mentioned on Thanon Sukhothai.

The inside the ear invisible ones people are mentioning are around 100k per ear if you get a good brand. The one on Thanon Sukhotai sells Widex brand which is considered the best. You can save a lot of money if you are willing to wear one on the outside of your ear instead of the in-the-canal type.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

What type of aid you need is determined by what hearing loss you have actually suffered. If its purely through age and you just need a boost then maybe the in-ear aids will do, but if its a different reason, tonal loss etc, then it may well be that the only aid that suits you has to be worn over the ear. A specialist will advise on that. The mould used plays its part as well. Technology is improving aids all the time.

Near the Queens Park Plaza (beer bars) and across from the Queens Park Hotel on the right side of Soi 22, 200 to 300 meters from Sukhumvit... big sign high up on the building I think says Beltone.

Here's contact info:

Tried this place and my impression it was all about selling you the top of the range stuff

Good hearing test followed by consultation with a specialist who impressively charts your test results into a computer which then downloads appropriate settings onto the hearing aid placed within range of the computer. Resulting test of the aid was great. Asked the price. 'Oh about 1000US per ear' was the response

Inspected other aids and asked if he could test those but was told they would have to be molded to fit my ear before the software could be loaded and that would take 2 days and incur a deposit. The first set I tried were the most expensive

Walked out feeling as though I was about to be conned

Any other appropriate places members have tried? Bangkok hospital?

Mr S has been deaf all his life but can hear (when he wants to :P ) quite well with the use of a very good aid. I think the best advice would be is not to buy cheap rubbish. You get what you pay for with hearing aids, no doubt about it.

It is so important to get it right before paying for it

World's first invisible-in-the-canal* hearing aid
Custom designed for your ear
Natural sounding
Completely digital
Virtually no whistling or buzzing
Works perfectly on the phone

Sure they try to sell you the most expensive thing they have Richard. You just have to be firm and haggle just like every where else in Thailand. you could have come out of there with a pair of behind the ear aids for probably less than 20k per ear if you persisted.

Unfortunately, there are only a very few places in Thailand that sell and fit hearing aids and most of them are owned by the same company as that office.

Hearing appliances are small very complicated computers. They are not cheap. The really good ones will cost more that 100,000 baht per ear on sale if you haggle them down for a while. They start out asking 200,000 baht per ear here for the good in-the-canal brands like Widex or Siemens.
