I'm new!!
Hi there - I guess I must be the newest member seeing as I only found the site yesterday and posted this message in the wrong place! I found the site by doing a web search too. Hua Hin is my favourite escape/relax spot if I happen to have been working in Bangkok (been many times). I was there for Songkran a few weeks ago, which was great and very different to Chiangmai, which is where I am usually for that festival.
I live and work in Chiangmai and the UK - know Chiangmai and the North really well as I've worked up there on and off for over 10 years. I see a few posts relating to travel up that way so maybe I can help in the future.
Really like HH - should be back later this year!
cheers and beers

Hua Hin is the most attractive #1 choice to move w/my 2 boys
Well, we have flights outbound to BKK 18th of July, but have only ideas and hopes of where we'll be settling. I say "hopes" because of finding schools, secondary level.
This is a move of at least two years, but may be somewhat more permanent.
I stayed w/my 25 year old son for 5 weeks, May-June '02. BKK was our base, as he lives there, but we spent much of our time traveling SE Asia. I didn't get to HH then, but am being guided towards a move there by my son and Thai friends.
That being said, I'll have to say that I've come to know of HH second-hand, through my son. He and a friend I'd met in '02 are scouting ahead for my family, trying to narrow choices so our relocation will be easier. I also need to get my two boys (15, 13) enrolled in school.. so, from this site I'll be headed to Ask the Expats forum to ask school specific questions.
BTW, I'm "the mom" to these three boys.
I'm relieved to find so much useful information on this site.

Have tried to eat the food drink the drink and wear the T shirt
Never done elephant polo would love to do that at any cost

Thats me Im on my way to luxury
Not very new, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents. If anything, it will help me increase the number of kisses under my name!
I came to Hua Hin in January 2003 and stayed for 5 months as a student at Webster Thailand. I had no real knowledge of Thailand, so I had no real expectations. What I discovered was a paradise that fits me like a glove.
I subsequently came back in January 2004 and stayed for another 5 months. I am currently planning my return to Hua Hin in January 2006. This stay will be indefinite (5 months or 5 years)!

Perhaps I'm repeating what I posted on another thread, but here goes.
I've lived in Chiang Mai for the last two years, but last week I fell in love with Hua Hin (my second visit, actually) and secured a place at the beach. I'll arrive about July 25 and probably teach school part-time.
If you see a nearly-elderly farang on a red Honda CBR with a light brown ponytail (extending from the helmet), that's probably me.

We have been comming to Cha-am & Hua Hin for the past 6 years, we made the decision last year to buy property because we love the place - and made lots of friends -Thai and english. We hope a lot of our friends that come out to stay will also enjoy the expierience and the culture as much as we do...

Hi Everybody,
I spent the years 1991-2000 working in SE Asia, based firstly in Bangkok, then in Singapore, and then in my home town of San Francisco. I met my wife-to-be in Phetchaburi in 1994, and we were married in 1999. We lived in Palo Alto, California for a few years, and when I retired at the beginning of 2004 we relocated to her home town.
We have been frequent visitors to HH over the years, initially for 2-3 days every 3-4 months, but latterly as "day trippers," a couple of times each month. We are very glad to note that over that time HH has not lost its charm.
Cheers,
Bill and Kuson Seymour

Hey Hua Hiners !
I'm Mel,a newbie from California.
Hi Lev,and thanks for inviting new posters to introduce ourselves.
I'm planning to move to Hua Hin within the next 5 months or so,and from what I've seen and read, you all seem like a good bunch of laidback beach folk to me,and it seems to be the perfect place for this mellow, laidback southern Cali born and raised beach guy to kick back, have a few drinks .a few laughs, and meet some sweet Thai gals as well!
This forum is great, and the after dark site is fantastic! I struck paydirt when I stumbled onto it.
I look forward to meeting everyone, and later, having a beer with some of you.
Cheers,
soulsurf
