This why this kind of "Krap" goes on, all of you Brits seem to think it is ok that they charge a fee to transfer, with no receipt, so no trace as "what money' then it goes in their pockets. Lets see 10 X 500 average a day for each individual officer, ya thats why, nice little tidy sum, you are agreeing with corruption, LOL you deserve all the gouging you get, "Remember the Boston Tea Party" us Yanks finally had enough.
Can I point out that I've never received a receipt from the American Embassy in London - just my passport returned with a Visa stamp. Is the insinuation that no receipt makes the Embassy staff corrupt? If so, maybe the Americans need to clean up their act as well.

So what.
Stop whinging and do something. Let us know how it turns out.
The UK passport and visa issuing offices usually have a very large prominent poster clearly displayed on the wall listing the fees in local currency for their various services.
Also, the fees are paid at a separate cashiers desk and the receipt shown to the issuing staff who then hand back the passport, so most of the officials are not involved in receiving payments.
Simple measures but effective in stopping any temptation to ask for extra money.
It's because foreigners are willing to make these extra payments so readily that the cancer continues to spread.
They wouldn't try it on with a Thai applicant as they know there are more likely to be repercussions and they are at greater risk of being questioned as to why they want extra money for simply doing the job they are employed to do. The hackneyed reply TIT is a dismissive excuse and insulting to Thais concerned about their country.

The horror! The horror!
Get over it.
Why are you quoting quid & dollars? The currency here is baht. If one works here, or has a business here, we earn baht, not dollars or pounds.
You may thinks its small money, but it soon adds up when is added for this & that every other day.

You transfer your visa every other day??? The lowest salary (roughly) for farangs here is about 40,000 baht a month. Your Thai counterparts earn around 15,000 - 20,000 at the high end (excluding businessman with own companies). I don't think a ONE OFF payment of 500 baht to transfer a visa is all that criminal.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!
Correct me if I am wrong but I think the gripe here is the fact that Hua Hin are charging for something that other immigration depts don't (becuase there is no fee for that service under the current legislation) ... it has little to do with the 500 baht or whatever it works out as in Iraqi Dinars. It is the HH dept on the take again.

Should have read the thread more carefully before I replied! Okay, I suppose the fact that other immigrations don't charge this is a bit of a joke. Anyways I was more referring to the complaint about "it adds up for this and that every other day" which I replyed with facts about our (guests in this country) earnings for work here and Thai people's earnings. Can you imagine if the role's were reversed. Thousands of Thai people come to England, earn a hell of a lot more money than the English and then complain about having to pay for things that "add up".
Given the choice, would you prefer to not have to do all this visa shite but be on a Thai salary..... I know I certainly wouldn't.

You're assuming everyone here works in Thailand and gets paid - I think you'll find the majority bring their hard earned foreign currency into Thailand! Why one immigration dept charges for something and another one doesn't is the issue here. {along with the original topic of it moving to the klong road whereupon new charges and fees may start occuring to pay for their shiny new building! .... 500 baht for 90 day stamp in huahin anyone?}

You are clearly not getting the point, 500 THB say X 10 is a big deal, for only one day (per officer) X 5-6, do that for a week, a month, a year, then the THB's quickly add up to big monies in everyones book, corruption is corruption no matter how you spell it

Yes it is on the TAKE AGAIN, or should we say always has been.

Still only 500 baht for you. The rest is private dealings among other people and no business of anyone other than the principals.
Look on the bright side: if he had fewer than you speculated it would cost you more than 500!
Do you really think HH Immig handles 50-60 falangs every day? That's somewhere around 12,000 a year. You've overstated things just a tad.
