Are you guys talking about fresh water or salt water aquariums? Somewhere I've read that salt water types are much harder to take care of. Pete

Do i need to change the water every week even if my water is not dirty ? Can i just keep the same water for 3 months if the water is clear ? I use a filter with carbon.

It's not easy to change the water in my tank.

Thanks.

A general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon of water so if you have a 50 gal tank you can have 50 small 1" fish, 25x2" fish, 5x10" fish etc etc. Overstocking is a common mistake beginners make, it usually results in the fish all dying due to high nitrates in dirty water.

If you intend to leave the tank I would go for smaller fish such as tetras, barbs, bala sharks, and danios. Larger ones are more demanding.

Water changes are essential, ideally you should change 50% of the water once a week, more if it is a heavily stocked aquarium. If you intend to leave the tank for a while don't get as many fish, this will help maintain water quality.

Have a look at the nitrogen cycles as well, there is plenty of info online.
Thanks for that Buksida - I'll certainly need to look into the whole issue with changing water regularly as there obviously seems to be a problem with leaving the aquarium unattended for up to 3 weeks..... which would happen.

As has been mentionned, they have very nice fish for your aquarium at the Grand Night Market on Thursdays. You can find some fish and funky blue crayfish and stuff in the Thai wet market at some of the stalls closer to the main road.
There is also a very nice shop at 'underground garage-level' of Market Village, where you can get all kinds of exotic fish, accessories, food etc. You'll have to take the escalator down somewhere in the middle of the shopping centre.
Hope this helps.

Any shop in Pranburi as i go there sometimes ?

Thanks.

Went to the shop in Market Village, pretty expensive, most of the fish are for sell at 30 or 40 bahts EACH. I had only 400 bahts so i bought only a few fishes.

Hold on a minute Johan, didn't you just tell us you paid 600K cash for a car and you are now complaining about 30 baht for freaking fish.

Not much consistency there.

Sounds like a Thai man mon ami, take a girl to a noodle stall in an expensive car but only eat 50 bahts worth of food.

Classic!

Yes, you need to change the water, it is not 'dirt' as such that causes the problems, it is buildups of ammonia and nitrates which you cant see. Have a read of this, it will explain the bio-chemical processes taking place in your tank: http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Cycle.htm

You can leave the same water in there for 3 months if you want to kill all of your fish.

Yes, as stated fish are expensive in Hua Hin so you should make the trip to the Ratburi market to stock up.

Spitfire, i bought the car cash but i saved money for very long time, it's my first car and i'm 24 yrs old. Right now i'm little broke and 40 bahts for a fish it's expensive when you can have fishes in the market for 7 bahts.

And i believe the value of the car will still the same in a year when i will sell it back, so it's like a virtually free car. I would also notice that this is a very cheap car, you can't get anything for that price in the new market, so it's not an "expensive car", it's just a normal priced car.

Please, go back to the fishes ;-)

Thanks buksida, i will give a look at that and see how i can change the water easily. I will maybe buy a special pump because i don't want to do it by hand.

We went there several years ago so I can't speak for their opening or closing hours. Combine it with a trip to Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park as a nice day out and you won't be wasting the trip if the fish market is closed.
Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park - This covers a hilly area with an old palace and historical temples in the vicinity of the town. This summer palace was built by King Rama VI in 1860. It was named “Phra Nakhon Khiri Palace”, but the folk usually call it “Khao Wang”. It consists of royal halls, temples and groups of buildings, constructed mostly in harmonious Thai, Western neoclassic and Chinese architectural styles. The Phra Nakhon Khiri Museum on the western hilltop exhibits some royal paraphernalia of King Rama IV and King Rama V, decorative sculptures, and ceramics from China, Japan and Europe. To reach the hilltop, one can either walk or take a cable car.
