You might want to reconsider that. Here is the tasting note on the wine: ripe, dark, dense and earthy, with a rich core of currant, mineral and spice. Shows off pretty, toasty, spicy oak too, all the while maintaining a tremendous sense of elegance and finesse. Best from 2002 through 2010.

Where do you get the Peter Valla wine ?
They have it (Peter Vella) in box and bottle at Villa (last time I looked), and Terrace90 sells it in their deli section I think (They actually sell any wine on their list for takeaway at 200 baht off the menu price I believe).

I also saw it at either Tesco or old Hua Hin Shopping Mall but I don't remember which.

I've yet to taste halfway decent Thai wine. All the Thai wines I've tasted so far have been plonk having the same relation to drinkable wine as Lao Khao has to Absolut Vodka.

If anyone knows a decent Thai wine please, please do tell. I won't hold my breath though.

I've tasted two that I liked. One was at the winery outside Hua Hin; Hua Hin Hills Vineyard. I tried all their wines and only liked one but I liked it enough to buy a couple of bottles. I believe it was the Monsoon Valley White Shiraz but they're gone now so I'm not positive. Don't be put off by the color as I was at first. I first ordered a glass of it at their restaurant expecting a white wine. When it came it looked pink like a Rose' so I thought they had made a mistake, but it did indeed taste like a semi dry white wine and very flavorful.

The other one was from Chateau Loei winery. They make several fine wines comparable in taste (and price) to good California, Australian, or French wines, but they are hard to find here. Theirs are the best in the country imo because of the climate in Loei province where the vineyards are. There is a much longer and cooler winter in that area.

If I had a wine cellar like that than I would end up going down to the downstairs neighbors every time I wanted a bottle of wine!   Seriously, you are supposed to keep the white and red wines at different temperatures, so this wine cellar is probably not very efficient even though it looks pretty cool!

I beleive that is serving temperatures that differ with wine colour and variety.

The ideal temp to store all wines is around 12-13degrees
..... and I'd love a Cellar just like that one!

When I kept a large quantity of 'fine' wines the minimum and maximum temperatures were between 40F and 60F, and I have never heard any other standard, so 12-13C ( 53 -56F ) seems much too narrow a difference

Come on then, what and where are the best priced wines for a non wine snob who just wants something reasonable.

I'll happily drink a £5 bottle in England.

I didn't say that's all I'll pay, I said I'll happily drink a bottle that costs as little as a fiver.

I don't see the point in paying more, I wouldn't get the benefit, I can get a perfectly decent bottle of wine for a fiver, I wouldn't pay over a tenner.

As I said, I'm not a wine snob, I'll happily drink Hardys or Jacobs Creek. TBH the stuff gives me a heavy head but I don't mind a glass occasionally.

I very much used to be! Now chateau anything under a fiver does me fine. Tescos aussie red label stuff is great value, as are several of Asdas own label stuff since they introduced a new wine buyer the other year, they are the 2nd largest wine sellers in the UK now based on quaffable cheaper stuff, as is a Cote De Rhone, thats now gone up to about 4.29 - at Waitrose! Even M&S sell a range of 12% wines that are all perfectly good table wines at 4.29 a throw!

Favourite red has to be Pinot Noir, as from Burgundy, but preferably the new world (US, NZ, Chile). White is Sauvingon Blanc, particularly from Nepenthe in the Adelaide Hills in Oz, if they are on form!

A great wine film full of pathos is 'Sideways' which I enjoy time and again!

I upset my Oz Brother in Law once by buying a 'clicky' Cloudy Bay Sauvignon at a restaurant in Noosa - he thought it not the done thing to do. On saying that I was keen to try it at the time, others from the same area are just as good as far I could tell?

As I previously posted, I have been a Director of F&B for 25 years. I'm very knowledgeable about food and beverages, including wine. White wine should be stored at a colder temperature (45-55 degrees) than red wine (50-55 degrees.)

I'm no wine snob, I will just as happily drink a $15 good wine than a $50 good wine. Though I have about 30 bottles of very expensive wine in my cellar, I open those only at special occasions. I have not checked the prices and wine selection available in Hua Hin, but I don't recall drinking a good $8/bottle wine anywhere.

While I agree with one of the previous posts that most good French wine are outrageously expensive, most good California wine are getting to close to that level too. It's harder and harder to find good values, but if you look you will find some 87-89 RP or WS rated wine under $20.00. (At least in the USA.)
