Just my 10 bahts worth, but if you have a valid western license from your home country then you don't have to take the written Thai test, just have to do the reaction test and vision test.

If you don't have a valid western license or it's out of date then you have to do the Thai written test.

A couple of mates in the area I'm in, not HH though, that have expired western licenses have had to sit the written test too.

Not saying that that's standard everywhere but seems to be the case in some areas.

I am also not sure if consistency rules on this one either though.

Wasn't an issue for me to get a 5 year license as had a valid UK license to present to the issuing center after having a 1 year license, just had to do the reaction test and have the hospital check sheet etc.

Rather than start a new thread, will pop this on here, mildly related.

Looks like they have caught the nut-bar Thai that shot at a Thai airways pilot in traffic because the pilot flashed his lights at the other car that had it's lights on full beam.

As said, it's a roll of the dice every time you drive as to what happens by the end of the journey, and it's for the Thais too, too bloody dangerous really.

Road rage shooting suspect nabbed

The suspect in the road-rage shooting of a Thai Airways International flight captain last week has been arrested in Phangnga province, a police source said on Friday.

Parisorn Huayhongthong, alias Nathapong, aged 26, is accused of having fired several shots at the vehicle driven by Lt Poolwit Ruengdech while he was on his way to Suvarnabhumi airport on the night of Jan 13.

The Thai Airways flight captain was hit in the left shoulder.

Phra Khanong District Court on Sunday, Jan 16, approved a warrant for the arrest of Mr Nathapong for attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm in public.

Pol Col Anat Kledmanee, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Division 4, said Mr Parisorn was arrested at Srivara Resort in Thai Muang district of Phangnga province.

The suspect was being brought to the Metropolitan Police headquarters in Bangkok for questioning, he said.

Expressway/elevated highway speed limit 80kms per hour.
I was told that only applied when the "80" electric signs were illuminated and flashing, which they seem to do in Bangkok at certain times of day or under certain traffic conditions. Many times, they are dark.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
