Looks like essexgaz picked up a bargain

Might be helpful to those looking for a kitchen if those who have them post prices and pics/specs.

Here is mine

We sourced our own appliances until the kitchen guy looked at what we had chosen (most on special deals) and beat the price. Kitchen is 17 sqm. It is extensively used as you can see and after 4 years the only thing that needs attention is the tightening of screw on the crockery cupboard which is, of course, the most used door and something I have been meaning to do for over a week . It also came with a large wine rack but filling that up in my household would be fatal so i put it in the office. Total cost 290k. When you think the extractor was 48k, fridge 30k, oven, hob, built in microwave all good quality. cannot remember prices but they were comparable to Smeg, which I also liked but simply could not have that written all over the appliances, I was happy with the price. Could have gone WAY cheaper on the appliances I know but it was what I fancied at the time. Got some all-in quotes at the time and they were both around double Sure they would have given me a 20-40% discount if I negotiated but I had checked the guys work on several developments and was comfortable so went for it.

I see no problem with the Thai style kitchen using a concrete frame instead of being all wood. If fact this is what I'm after since the falang kitchens are more expensive here than falangland and the build budget is almost exhausted.

What about some commercial Stainless Steel benches and cupboards.

Later you could put in a proper kitchen if you want and can afford.

I could do with a couple of S/S benches.

Can anyone help with a manufacturer?

Boontavorn used to do a large range of Thai kitchens at their Bangkok stores, priced fully built - I haven't been to the Hua Hin one so I don't know if they have them or not but they are a well respected Thai store.

Thanks for the suggestions, Crazy your kitchen looks fab but way way beyond our budget sadly.

oz, we have the granite tops on already, just a shell below it though as the company that was originally going to do the built-in keeps jacking us around with the price quoting stuff like "the price of wood has gone up" and generally trying to squeeze more baht out of us. So I told them where to go.

Boontaworn does do some nice kit but again its well beyond our budget.

It is not that they are trying to squeeze more baht necessarily. They quoted you low to get the job, often half what it could possibly be done for, took a deposit , spent it, did a bit of work to show willing and now they have no cash, and are scratching their heads, they find excuses to finish leaving you frustrated and telling them to go. Now you are left in a situation where a new contractor will come in and quote you more than you want to pay based on your perception of the original quote you accepted as being correct. IMHO

My best suggestion as you have got this far would be to measure up and make a list of what you need to finish before seeking quotes to do so.

There is a big SS place on the left heading towards the airport. There are also a couple of places, little workshops, in a side street near Casa Mia. Had a couple of quotes from them that were pretty reasonable.

Nope didn't miss your point - this Developer had his own outfitting group that was used, they were presented to us as a very professional outfit, however they weren't. With regards your pet hate in this instance I'd say i'm justified as the group took their instructions from the Thai partner who was probably handing out the peanuts frugally.
As you say it's after the fact, and nothing can be done about it now.

However, i think we should get back on topic, as maybe one day i'll decide to change out the kitchen and have to make sure next time i get something with quality...

I have one of these in our house in Issan, tiled over concrete with wooden doors and it's very practical.
It's hygenic as you can wash the cupboards out with disinfectant and loads of water and as it's solid masonary, insects can't move in behind the units.
Any competent Thai builder can make this style of kitchen and we just used a local guy in the village.

Here's a concrete 'frame' one we did earlier in the year, this was an outside kitchen. It wasn't as cheap as it could have been because (apart from granite top)... a) it was a joint affair between our builder that built the house and the furniture guy, so would have been less profit if kitchen guy had done concrete/tiling/M&E, and b) each cupboard was fully tiled inside, incl. back wall, render & paint would have done. Think the cost was 38k, before our 0.5% mark-up, price included H/L shelf, L/L cupboard shelves, sink & tap, not hob.

I'd have put a bottom plinth personally... and there's about 1m to the left not in the shot...

Kitchens we put in our houses, which furniture guy charges us around 120k, includes granite, M&E, sink & tap, not equipment, no frills drawer runners/door hinges, but fully 'finished' inside cupboards ie: boxes in columns/multiple shelf positions, proper elec spurs added, socket faceplates extended onto back of cupboard etc. Sketch isn't this exact kitchen, but they're handy as you can get a good view of it and change shit around...

SJ - some great pics and ideas, thought never crossed my mind to do something along these lines. This is similar to what the Mrs did in the house up in PLO.

Just today we had been shopping for a kitchen at "The Cabinet" and are waiting for a quote.

This is more of a closed room design as I've always liked a separate kitchen (has 2 open arched doorways, one leading to the dining room and the other to a hallway that goes to laundry room and exit doors to outside). I was never fond of the kitchen tucked in the corner of the living room design, but that's just me. This one including appliances (Siemens built in microwave, oven, dishwasher, Smeg hob with 4 gas burners and one electric topped by a professional style vent hood, triple stainless sink, and double door Samsung refrigerator on the fourth wall behind the photographer which besides the fridge is a complete wall of matching built in floor to ceiling cabinets cost around 700k all in...

Hollister. Yes it is wood but not solid which would not have cost that much more and was my choice to have lighter weight doors. I had it done by a guy that has done many of the developments in HH. I have used his team on numerous occasion without a problem. I can put you in touch. Limited English but if you show him what you want that is exactly what you will get.

Nice kitchen HHF, a fair old price tag mind but you have to pay for quality ofcourse. What type of wood is it if you don't mind... solid, teak veneer 'box' section etc? I'm hoping be get an ad page up on the forum shortly for kitchens/cabinets in general etc, just need to get my arm into gear and get the details to admin!!
