I know it's the obvious one and not extremely well paid but you can bring in 35 - 50,000 teaching if you play it right. Not for everyone I understand but if you are desperate to stay here by any means it may well be an option.
I too came here at 21 for a 6 month holiday.... coming on 8 years later I find myself still here
My friend taught who came here with me in the first place, he has subsequently gone home and I don't think it would be for me, but thanks for the advice.

Tom, I may be wrong here and if I am I'm sure I'll be told so, but it seems to me that you are looking for more than just critical advice here, it seems to me that you are hoping that in amongst what advice you do get, that someone is going to throw out that nugget of an idea that you are then going to be able to turn into something more. I've read several of your threads with various ideas and whilst I admire your determination to hang on in Thailand and your desire to work, I have to say that IMHO none of your ideas have seemed particularly well thought through.
Good luck going forward, I hope you find whatever it is that's going to keep you where you want to be.

Well the thing is, I am not looking for that nugget someone may spurt out, I am just trying to pull together some ideas as I have some many of them swirling around my head. I just want to hear what people think may or may not work, and so far I have had some good advice on what not to do.
I have not even begun to make a definite venture yet, I am making the steps towards it, so yes of course things may sound sketchy at the moment. Unless you can hand me your Lord Of the Rings sword aragon to sell on ebay for a vast amount of money, at the moment I am still drawing up on that drawing board.

You might want to try Bangkok, Uktom, especially with graphic designer skills and a degree.
A few years back a friend of mine who started out here at a similar age to you took the plunge. Started out quite low waged but ended up running his own company.
I think opportunities in HH are few and far between.
Yes johnny I have reaized that about Bangkok, there are so many jobs available there, even for white people! The problem with that though is I despise Bangkok, It drives me insane. It is pure madness and I would never consider living there. Add to the fact that there is a good chance of annual flooding now due to deforestation up north like we had last year, air pollution, no thank you. If it was one hour away, I would not have any hangups about commuting, but it is just a bit too far away maybe.. Something to consider though seeing as that is where my skils are and it would be a concrete solution. Cheers.

It is difficult to sell on eBay from Thailand too...people do not want to pay the postage (I know you were joking about the sword lol)
hehe, yes I was making a little joke there. I have sent home and had things sent to me and I will second that anything to do with ebay will not work. The prices to post packages is pretty harsh IMO. How about buying loads of cheap valium and setting up an online pharmacy? That is also a joke by the way.

If you got a job that paid well enough you could always go up to Bangkok Sunday night/Monday morning and come back to Hua Hin Friday night. Also I guess a lot of the jobs 'in Bangkok' are probably not central and some of the areas on the outskirts are quite a lot more bearable than central bkk. Plus living on the outskirts, you're never far away from a party down-town. And again, once your in a job, around people you may just find that link back to the coast that you're looking for.
This site has a load of jobs all over the country. Unfortunately when I looked a lot of them were for Thai nationals only, but in amongst all the ones you won't be eligible for, there will be the odd one or two that you could apply for (if you wanted to).
Hey thanks Pleng! The only thing I like about bangkok is Lumphini Park, oh and ancient Siam. I don't have any experience in work though as I basically have come right out of uni, they often ask for 1-2 years experience, which is silly because how can you ever get started in the first place? I will flick through though and consider things even more.

Thing is I am not a fraud lol, I have a portfolio and an education in graphic design, just no actual work experience apart from freelance work.

Talking from experience Bangkok is not that bad as a place to work and live. You might consider it as a start.
Bangkok certainly is overwhelming and confusing to a visitor who needs a long time to carefully choose between the many exits of the sky train station only to find out he got it wrong and ended up on the wrong side of the road, again.
But before you know it you will find your way around with your eyes closed. You will have found your favourite restaurants, your favourite bar(s), you know exactly where to best buy whatever you need etc. You are in the routine. After a short while I even managed to navigate the whole city using the 5 and even 3.5 Baht public buses. Of course this involved some trial and error experimenting in the beginning.
You will be surprised how serene and quiet Bangkok can be once you are a few hundred metres as the crow flies away from the bustle.
My personal advice: learn Thai till you drop, also reading and writing. That really helps in finding a job.
PS And make sure all the models that feature in your portfolio have glaring white skin.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
Cheers @Roel the whole Bangkok idea has struck a chord with me. I appreciate the critics on this thread as much as the people who believe in my creative-chaos. I am young yes, speaking with a friend who owns an English establishment, small but seems productive. He is past 50 and all of his friends and subsequently people I have come to know and maybe are now considered friends. I realize I am probably in like the 5% range of expats who choose to try and live here age wise, so of course I will have some naive ideas and ignorant to other things, but that is a process of learning is it not?
