How long have you been a supporter of your club
Re: How long have you been a supporter of your club
I'd say about 20 years, since primary school really.
My old man isn't interested in Sport so can't claim to be brought up on the terraces.

Got a piece of the White Hart Lane centre circle after the 1972 UEFA Cup Final victory on the 17 May 1972 v Wolves. It's still in a Bryant & May matchbox. Any Offers

Yes, 10p if the matches still work.

Any studs or teeth in it?

Supported Charlton since 1946. BB - first game I attended at the valley was against Plymouth. Was a regular attendee when I lived in South London and saw Charlton beat Huddersfield 7-6 after being 5-1 down.

Re: How long have you been a supporter of your club
Started on the terraces watching Hull City with my dad when 10. Cold, wet, hungry and bored. Eventually after sampling wet and muddy Hull City football and Hull RUFC terraces I gave up. When schooling in York I got a chance to watch Leeds United and noticed the immediate upgrade in skills. Followed them (going downhill) ever since.
Used to watch several teams live but gave up when I went to watch a Millwall game in Wapping where I thought World War III was breaking out. In my terrace days it was never a family event. It was all swearing and lynch the ref stuff. Young lads were allowed as it was supposed to be educational and how to become a grownup
Would love to sample a good big name soccer match now but the nearest I've got in previous visits to the UK is to Twickers, Wembly and the Millennium stadium to watch the cream of Rugby. The real mans game

That's interesting as they scored both your goals that day! I'd rather forget them as well. Bobby Tambling got our consoolation goal at the end and I recall being utterly distraught. I was, however, watching on the box.dtaai-maai wrote:I don't remember Frank Saul and Jimmy Robertson very well at all
I don't see Chelsea much now, but my Dad 1st took me as a kid as my Granfather took him - they all grew up within spitting distance of the Bridge. By the time I came along we'd moved south of the river over Putney Bridge (and I still breath a sigh of relief every time I cross a London Bridge from the North). I went regularly with my Dad, eventually migrating to the stands from the terraces, until he didn't bother and I was keen to go with my mates in any case. I wasn't allowed to go the cup final in 1970 but I recall trudging in after seeing us lose against Stoke in the 73 League Cup final and he took it out on me as if it was my fault!
Was an absolute regular until I started playing Saturdays as well as Sunday mornings, but still packed many games in home and away. Then I became a ref on Saturdays, and usually run a line in midweek, so that stopped me going so much, but then I got tired of reffing and went back to watching Chelsea. Don't go so much now but love it when I do and miss it when I don't.
Favourite memory has to be winning promotion at Wolves in 1977. All Chelsea fans were banned from travelling to away games, so naturally 1000's did. We actually got our tickets outside the Bridge after the last home game and 5 of us hired a car to drive up there (didn't trust our own), we packed the car with food and booze and had alll sorts of adventures getting there and coming back, ending up in a nightclub in Richmond! Great days.
Had the chance to play at the Bridge once, but missed it with a broken ankle. It was a memorial game for a mate who was one of the main stewards who died tragically young (I was a steward as well, when fans did it). The programme that was printed has become quite a collectors item, I still have my copy somewhere.

Many years ago I worked with a very quiet and studious Geordie who only ever drank halves. (Not many of them to the pound!
