Find the nearest repair shop - they seem to have them all over the place. The other option might have to be a cheap B&B until you can locate somewhere next morning.............which might add to the experience?

Those Honda Waves are very reliable, we have two of them and one is now nine years old with about 100,000 km on it and it's still never had a problem that stopped it dead in the street. Even if it did, they don't weigh much and you can get them into the bed of a pickup with a couple of people.

Maybe I could stand at the side of the road waving a 100 baht note at pickup trucks. Flies to honey.

Homer riding around or driving around is nothing like back home. I have broken down many times and ran out of fuel a few. each time I haven't waited more than 5 minutes before someone has stopped and helped. Once the bike I was doing a visa run blew a piston just outside Chumphon. A truck stopped and after deciding the bike was kaput they manhandled it onto the back of the truck and took me to my door in HH. None would take a Satang for their help. Fuel as I found out later is never far away as most little shops sell it by the bottle. The same goes for a mechanic. Get a flat and you can slowly ride to the next mechanic and get it fixed. A map is cheap and today most smart phones even have gps.
Riding around this beautiful country is one of my favourite past times. Have camera will travel !

I would think on a Honda wave/m/c one has far more options and probably a lot less distance to help in that event than you would have in an SUV Pickup or car you cant pick them up and load them on a pickup and my ex hernia rules out pushing a car

The bike that blew a piston on me around 300 kms from home was sorted within 20 minutes as said. A truck going to BKK stopped and after shifting about his load and a bit of manhandling we got it up onto the back and he took me all the way home. I travelled on the Back with the Burmese labourers and we drank the Burmese whisky and I gave them the 200 cigarettes I had brought back for 80 Baht. Another time when I lived in Chumphon and the back wheel bearing went on my Virago 1000 a pick up stopped within 10 minutes and took he me and the bike back home for 500 Baht.
Back in the UK people just drive by you and simply ignore you. Just getting dragged off the motorway to the next services will set you back 100 pounds at least.

My son rode his M/B from Vancouver right across Canada to Ottawa. He had a problem with the chain and had to stop every 100K to adjust it. Nearly everytime he was working on it somebody stopped andoffered assistance. In Canada where in the winter you often need help, there is a code that you offer help.

Steve G - how long is the trip to Dolphin Bay?
It's only about 50 odd km to Dolphin Bay but take the back roads from Khao Tao and you can visit Paknampran, Pranburi beach and Khao Kalok along the way and you can make a day of it. If you want to go further you can wander around SamRoiYod park but be careful that you don't miss out on paying a couple of hundred baht to go in by coming out of that small village on the left around the entrance!
I did this run last year, but from paknampran, through Kao Kalok, to dolphin bay, into sam roi yot to sai cave. I had my wife on the back and we were riding a honda pcx 125cc. We went into sai cave, then headed to pranburi, then back to paknampran. We took plenty of time out to stop and see/experience things. We did 160km and we were out about 6 hours. It was my wifes 1st time on 2 wheels and she loved it.
Now I have to take her out on a bike ride everytime we come to HH.

JK my wife and I regularly do Pranburi to Paknampran along the coast road to KHoa Kalock and back to pranburi or reverse its about 30Km and we do it on bicycles so butt time should not be a problem on a 125
My 125 is 7 years old it is a special edition disc brakes front and rear and other than being hit up the rear by a farang aresehole have never had any problems at all
I would advise be very carefull on the Phetchakasem road from Hua Hin to Pranburi i now always go on the By Pass far far safer

Yes, you can do the whole trip on minor roads from Khao Tao, you're bound to get lost but the good thing is that you're on a strip of land between the coast and Petchakasem road so as long as you stay out of the sea you can never go too far wrong.
Towards the southern end of Dolphin Bay there are a couple of small local restaurants with wooden tables under some pine trees on the beach where you can relax and look at the islands over a drink and where it's hard not to feel content with life.
