Next week will mark 23 years married to a local lass. Just under half of that spent here in Hua Hin. All this counts for nothing when it comes to being a farang. You were born in that box and so shall you remain for time eternal however good your Thai is or understanding of Thailand. What I have tried to learn is to not cause ripples. As a farang you are expected to do farang things and just because a Thai does something it does not mean that you can get away with it. Best to just ignore those using the word farang in a negative way as most do not. When I am tempted to comment it is easier to just say something to someone else within earshot of the a*****e in Thai which usually shuts them up.
Being concerned about being a farang only highlights your farang-ness. Accept it, enjoy yourself.

When you have money in a bank account that is yours!
When you use a mobile for phone calls.
When you can drive around curves at speeds less than in a straight line.
When you show up to a meeting on time.
When you have an eclectic music library.
When you smile and mean it.
etc.
