Well, BB, if you want some 'authentic' lady fingers (sounds wrong in this forum, somehow!) for your trifle just let me know. My flight leaves Milan Malpensa for the LOS tomorrow lunchtime and I'm happy to oblige by nipping over the road to Esselunga (think Italian Waitrose) to get you some if you want.Big Boy wrote:Actually, because of my problem, my wife often asks that question, and the answer so far has always been honest and correct. Believe me, it would only take one bite (I wouldn't have chance to swallow) - anything on the way down would be met by the contents of my stomach on the way up (prcscct wrote:Will the shop clerk really know what's in a certain cake, or just give the answer the buyer wants to hear to get a sale?sorry, probably too much information

The last episode that caught me out was at Bristol Harbour Regetta last year. Sample sized drinks of orange juice etc were being handed out free in quite a few places. It was a hot day, so was very welcome. Then I unwittingly took a sample of Malibu - it literally touched my bottom lip, and I was urging violently. Fortunately my wife had a bottle of water with her, and we able to wash it off my lips before the inevitable happened.
Brilliant - sounds perfect (they don't have coconut in them I hopepoosmate wrote:Villa market has sponge/lady fingers -Italian brand I think. Were on top of the freezer behind the eggs last time I bought them.). That will be myfirst port of call when I get my car back from the doctor

Thanks for the offer JJB, but from the responses I've had, I think I'm going to be OK. Once I've found what I'm looking for (or a suitable substitute), I'll know what I'm looking for in future years.

Sorted

Got them in Villa Market today priced 110 Baht. However, they were on the bottom shelf in the middle of the aisle where they display biscuits. Not on top of the freezer cabinet.

As an aside, I was also looking for custard powder (thought we already had some, but we all know what thought did). Couldn't find it, so Mrs BB asked an assistant. She helpfully directed us to the aisle. We walked up and down half a dozen times before giving up.
I despatched Mrs BB to grab the assistant so that she could point to the custard, because we had obviously gone blind. The assistant came back with my dear wife, and with a huge smile pointed at the custard. No, that's mustard. Oh, we don't sell it then.
Another trip to Villa Supermarket followed
