fair eough Jaime, I'm staying down that way this trip, and expect to be walking past there quite a bit in the next few months. If I do happen to drop in, buksida's warning will flavor the experience for sure, and I will be much less likely to accept any sort of BS from the staff there....

It has to be said that Hua Hin beach, despite its imperfections, is an absolutely fantastic stretch of sand - quite at odds with the depressing descriptions of it in Rough Guide & Lonely Planet that I remember reading a few years back. It is a shame that there are few opportunities to sit at a bar, have a few beers and watch life on the beach passing by.

I know its not a bar but I enjoyed eating at Supatra, right on the beach at Khao Takiab, snacking on the raw shellfish on ice with a few beers as the sun reflected off the giant Buddha. Looks a bit posh from the outside but its really quite informal and nice for a couple of quiet daytime beers in the sun, right on the beach.

Ah f**k - I've just depressed myself - it's bastard freezing here and I've got the mid-winter months to get through till my next trip!

I was also talking from my own experience. During the four years I've been visiting Veranda, I've had no problems whatsoever. So there's no reason for me not to recommend it.

Beach Bar in Hua Hin

Post by maggie »

What about all the places selling food and drinks during day time at the beach.....are they all closed in the evenings?

I would think it would be nice spending evenings by the sea, with nice music and so on...shouldn`t be to difficult making it nice and cosy in the evening time........... :D

We found a really nice place called Tims bar quite far south at the beach, I think next to Chiva Som, actually, and they had really nice service and specially took good care of the children, playing etc. I do not know if they are open in the evenings though...

Good on you Maggie as I did not think that anyone else had ever heard of Tims place.I often drink there till 10 or 11pm on an evening.Children are free to run about, they will cook you anything that you want>it is well frequented by polite thai people who are allowed to do their own barbecues at weekends. As i stay always at Chan Chay bungalow for the past 4/5 years I always use Veranda as well and have no complaints with their service or attitude.I did prefer it before they rebuilt it as it was a little more basic but as everyone keeps mentioning on this website,Hua Hin is changing and becoming more developed.Thats progress whether you like it or not.I do not come as often as before but still enjoy it when i do.

There is one of the places that sell food/drinks in the day that is open at night. Take the street leading to the beach down from PP Villa hotel, turn left at the beach past the Hilton about 100 meters, you will find an open bar. It is very relaxing to sit on the beach in the evenings and sip your favorite drink. My GF and I go there almost every night we are in Hua Hin. Their are usually 2-3 other couples in and out during the evening.

Went to the Lets Sea in June a few times while I was there. It is a bit more expensive than most places in HH (not so much the food, but the drinks), but in saying that, only paying $3.50 Aust Dollars for Heinikinn was still very cheap (most pubs here you are paying at least twice that price).
We spent a great afternoon and early evening (till sundown) there, found the place to have a very relaxed atmosphere and very friendly, professional service.

Also spent a fair bit of time at the beach bar that is just past the Sofitel (going away from the town). The people who run that place could not do enough for you, the drinks were cheap, the food was very good and only a small charge for the sun beds.

Also at the far end of the beach at Koh Takiab where the gold budah is, the small bar at the bottom of the steps with the blue umbrellas's serves some very good seafood dishes.
While we were there at the weekend, there were what I would imagine you would call a lot of out of town Thai's eating there and all only had good things to say about the food.

On our walk from the town, we also stopped at some of the other places that I think other posters have mentioned, and all seem to be nice places as well.
The good thing is, that if you have walked down the beach from the town as we did, it is easy to pick one of the green taxi vans to take you back.

Although you do not have full on beach bars, we found plenty of places to stop in and take in the magnificent views up and down the beach.
I would imagine most of beach places close up early because most people spend time on the beach duruing the day time and then tend to head into town at night.

Sounds a pretty good selection if you know where to look. That's the great thing about a forum like this; can you imagine how long it would take to find all this out on your own?
Down at the weekend so looking forward to checking a few of these out.
