Thorougly agree with you ting tong, I do not live in Thailand but have spent enough time there to see that most of the people that go on holiday, have their fun, leave and then pass disparaging comments on the very people that they have probably spent most of the time with, are the worst of all two faced people in the world.

He (I Presume) would not have the balls to walk in to a bar anywhere in Thailand and repeat the exact words that has just published on this board.
Perhaps his last vist was a series of knockbacks and this is the only way that retribution can be gained.

I think from memory that there was a band called Captain Sensible that was a one hit wonder, perhaps judging from the comments published in the previous post, he did not even get his 1st hit on this vist.

Very strong reply ting tong, but i understand your anger. This sort of generalisation happens far too much, people who stay here should understand that and be more thoughtful in their comments. I can see a torrent of replies to captain sensibles last post!

Hmm extremely bitter words there, I think captain f**kstick is speaking from experience, don't you just love those sweeping generalisations.

I can just see him sitting in his empty rented house in Cha-am, counting his satangs as all of his bahts have been stolen by his beloved Thai girlfriend who didn't work in a bar.

In they way that you end up paying anyway, one way or another

Captain Pugwash/Sensible has been around on this forum for a while.
He raises his head occasionally.
Ignore him.

Many thruths have been written here. I very much sympathize with Maggie's original comment.

There are many reasons why prositution exists. Most of the intelligent theories are anthropoligal not social.

Many books have been written on the subject, many of which focus on this region.

What I have noticed is that in all societies is is considered a low end profession for people that may not be able to take up another profession.

In the West where social security is available, it has become almost a black market industry. Prositutes are considered to be second class citizens.

Here in SE Asia it is considered just another job, however in the regions of Thailand many people will not admit to having done it and tell lies about where there daughters are working.

I lived in a poor area of Thailand for six months and learnt this. There are villages full of old people and babies witha few drunken young men who are incapable of any kind of employment. When meeting a child I always asked the question, "where is the mother?". The usual answer was they were working in Bangkok, Pattaya or Patpong as waitresses and cashiers.

I wondered if the families were hoodwinked or they were too embarrased to admit what their daughters actually did. I think a bit of both applied. However they were always grateful for cash to be sent to them.

Another thing I noticed there and in other parts of Thailand is that the stigma does not exist as it does in the West. A girl who admits that she is a prositute is accepted and taken at face value.

I personally believe that is is much better to have it open rather than in countries like Iran and pre-war Iraq where it is a summary execution offence.

I do not really want it shoved in my face though.

There are many social problems in the world today. Poverty, disease and war spring to mind.

Address the more dangerous problems first.

I would like to put a different point of view. First I am female, second I am western European. I am married (happily- even my husband says so) third although nowhere near Thai size, not massive either, so that clears up the common misconceptions. Dr. Dave some women earn more than their men, does that make you prostitutes? Dream on. Most working girls are attractive or they wouldn't earn any money most single women make themselves look attractive maybe to attract a mate, perhaps the bad feeling towards working girls is mostley from older women who fear losing there partners or plainer younger ones who don't think they will get a mate. Do the men agree with there wives because it seems right(saves a row) have they been hurt because they deluded themselves? Prostitution is another trade and it is only made sleasy in peoples minds. Sex is not dirty. Would you like to be a sewer cleaner or a crematorium attendant? Going with a bg is only like having a massage only more intimate. Okay sharpen your pencils. 8)
