James has been selling the snake tongs for a few years now.

I got one of the first ones.
The first version was cast and a lovely piece but I was told they took too long to
make for production . There was a lot of tooling up .
I was at the home made Blast Furnace BBQ...Lol...

The new ones are Machine finished and i know alot of time and effort goes into them.

I totally agree with the handling of dangerous snakes but the Malaysian Pit Vipers
I have caught so far have all been the same. Coiled up with their head resting on the top.
Just approached them slowly and grab behind the head.
But everyone is different and has there own opinion...

Mind haven't tackled a cobra yet....
I know my limits and i will make the decision when it happens..
If the things darting around and aggressive i will hide behind the sofa hahaha
sent the wife out ! Joking of course...

Bristolian wrote:Hi James, I would have bought a couple of sets years ago had they been available. As an engineer I made a couple of sets myself and would not be without them.

Looking at the sets that you are selling, they are really well made ( aerospace aluminium alloy), wow that stuff is pricey...

Good luck with what appears to be a well made product. 1.5 M long, for me, is far too close for comfort unless you get the snake close to the head....mine are 1.8 M and seem about right, with possible extension of arm. But seriously....if in doubt call in an expert to deal with a snake.....wrangling a, minor risk, tree snake is one thing, handling a viper or cobra is in a totally different league and should be left to the experienced, those with a death wish or thrill seekers.
Hi Bristolian,

Nice to here yet someone else thinks they are really well made. Had a lot of very positive
feedback with purchases. There even better in the flesh...

Yes the Aluminium ain't cheap but the whole idea was to make a premium product.

The original Snake Tong brought from the UK 4 years ago.
It was 1.2m long. badly cast. full of rivets and operated by a bicycle brake cable.
The goal was to make a much improved product....

Just offering a product that certain people / resorts etc seemed to have wanted for years.

Certainly worth giving it a whirl on the local forum - No harm done :D

^^ Seriously, go for it. I like the engineering and obvious build quality.

If they are made in HH please let me know the supplier of the aluminium, by PM. I have my own hobby workshop and struggle for good local suppliers of all materials...normally forced to buy from BKK. I have no intention to compete :D , unless you build model engines etc :D

Great job.

It does not matter where you come from, it's where you are going that matters.

^^ Give the guy a break. He is selling a product that needs some thought in its use. If it's a viper cobra, krite etc get an expert to handle them unless someone is in immediate danger or you really know how to handle them.
Snake tongs are great but only if used responsibly ( wow...that sounds like a government warning for smoking) :D

:agree:
I have friends who are using these tongs successfully on a regular basis. They are both retired, and have had no proper training. Their only failures have been when the snake has retreated too quickly for them.

No, they haven't used them on a cobra, and I doubt they'd be stupid enough to try. They may or may not have tried vipers. When they use them, it is catch and re-locate. They don't stop to pose for photos.

These tongs are as good or better than what you see used on the nature shows. All one has to do is look at these shows and the way they are used. Example is "Rattlesnake Republic' which shows on Discovery here from time to time. Pete

Most folk we sell them to are the same...knowing their limits.

We made the tongs firstly as a hobby to improve on a friend's snake tong
then just word of mouth....
There seemed to be a lot of people who said we will buy them...and have ! :D
