This gives the powers to be an excuse to achieve their goal of only attracting up-market high spending tourists to Thailand. Maybe we will see beaches patrolled as they do in the US clamping down on bonfires, sex, vodka buckets and drugs.

If they get round to banning bikinis in Thailand I'll be able to go and swim in my communal pool without bumping into a beached whale wearing a bikini and curlers

This is what fascinates me about the Thai. Any politician in the UK would be absolutely slammed for making such a suggestion, but it seems OK in other parts of the world!

I don't suppose he has to worry about attracting votes too much!

In Thailand it is the people in various colored uniforms that are much more dangerous to expats and tourists than a bikini.

What's with all these negative comments about Thailand from forum members here. I thought this was pure heaven to all of you... :P
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Well, how sad it may be, the man is right. Beautiful young ladies in bikini are not safe in Thailand.

Or anywhere in the world walking around a beach at night.
I think some of his now very viral statement made headline news in the UK I understand his point but can also understand it was insensitive and lost in translation at the end of the day he is a high ranking soldier and not a politician dealing with world affairs but at least he made an apology.

But he is. He's now the Prime Minister so whether he likes it or not, a politician!
