I can clearly remember my gran coming to our house for dinner on a semi-regular basis and could recall her days working in the bars of London pubs and could remember how much a pint of beer was and a shot of whisky etc, but what she couldn't remember was that she had told you the same thing on the past x number of visits (bless her mind you, she always got the amounts the same, so she wasn't making it up.)dtaai-maai wrote:You are not alone, my friend...hhfarang wrote:Funny thing for me these days, my short term memory is worse than my long term.

Not necessarily. I've had a few drinking nights in my time where I had no idea what I said the night before, and came to the forum the next day ready to dodge bullets. Sometimes I had to. Look at the philosophical waxing I did on the Fox News thread Thursday night. I actually laughed at it the next day.dtaai-maai wrote:^^![]()

BB, has anybody ever discussed 'prosopagnosia' with you? This is a neurological condition where people are unable to recognise faces and affects a surprisingly large number of people...Big Boy wrote:Since that time I have had extreme difficulty with anybody's facial recognition. If I see somebody where I'm not expecting to see them, I just don't recognise them, and even if they start talking, it can take me several minutes to realise who they are. Of course, people think I'm being ignorant.
My assumption is that my brain just switched off the facial recognition part while I was doing a very mundane task for a few months, and has never switched that part back on. As far as I know, everything else works fine

Come to think of it, I started forgetting some stuff as soon as I started remembering stuff. Maybe my hard drive is full. I know my floppy disk is having problems remembering how it works.
I thought about exchanging it for one of those new-fangled thumb drives but I thought they were too small to do the job.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

No, I've never even seen a medic about it. I've lived with it for 40 years, and have managed.J.J.B. wrote:BB, has anybody ever discussed 'prosopagnosia' with you? This is a neurological condition where people are unable to recognise faces and affects a surprisingly large number of people...

With me it's peoples names!
I find that going through the alphabet letter by letter the name pops back into my head.
Like most old farts, I don't have a clue what happened yesterday but remember my first day at school.
I say to my wife "I don't remember making love to you yesterday, so we had better do it again today"
It only works 3 out of 4 times.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Remember many times with Ian Lewins both here and in Bangkok leaving a joint and neither of us could remember the name of someone we'd been chatting too. Many times we used to call each other and say "just done the alphabet search and his/her name is........"

^ That is bad, I've never left a joint... always remembered to take that with me.
