Below is what I read about the drinking laws, but it was dated last year some time and I don't know if another more recent law change has come about ??
The Cabinet yesterday endorsed a new regulation for a midnight closing time for most entertainment venues, while allowing nightspots in designated zones to stay open two hours longer.
After a brief discussion on the proposed regulation, the Cabinet agreed to an earlier decision by a government committee which called for different closing hours for nightspots in different zones, Deputy Interior Minister Pracha Maleenont told reporters yesterday.
The new closing times come into effect on March 1.
All entertainment venues outside the designated areas, including food shops selling liquor and music, will now have to close at midnight instead of the current 2am.
In the designated zones, nightclubs and bars can stay open until 2am, while pubs and discotheques are required to close at 1am.
IF there are designated nightspots that can stay open till 2am, then that would be how the Hilton Nightclub can do what it does!?

My understanding is the same as Lomu's. The official closing time is midnight. Before that it was 01:00 and before that is 02:00.
What we all know here of course is that it means nothing. Ther are many Thai establisments open all hours they wish.
I still have seen nothing in writing officially (I dscount the BKK POst) but have been told by brown trousers that it's OK to keep open until 2:00 so long as you keep the noise down. After two a bar can get into trouble.
Where the bar is located has a great bearing on opening hours.
As for zoning it may be the practice in the provinces that encompass BKK but again I have seen or been told that such a scheme exists anywhere else.
I think what burger has pasted is more or less correct although the enforcement did not come into place here until late last year. I think it lasted about two weeks before the collection plate came round.

I think not. Planet Hilton seems to run under it's own laws that are probably determined at National Level. My guess is that they shut at whatever time they believe it is suitable for them bearing in mind, hotel guests, staff, drunkenness and many other commercial factors.
I doubt if you will see much football there unless you book a room.

Don't worry about the laws etc, they are not enforced as far as we, the punters, are concerned. Maybe the bar owners have to cough up a few more Baht to stay open, but then their takings are better for the night, so everyone's happy.
Some bars in Soi Bintabaht and the surrounding soi's are open and serving until the 5am final whistle.
Bars in the 'karaoke area' - ditto.
Some restaurants - ditto.
Some 'Thai style' bars - ditto.
You could probably watch a different World Cup game in a different bar every night throughout the tournament, if you so fancied.
