A History Lesson:
The Evolution of Dusit Thani Hua Hin Football Academy
Dusit Thani Hua Hin Football Academy was originally formed as Hua Hin Academy on 8th January 2010 by coach Francis Henyoh, an ex- Ghanaian professional footballer, whose career had taken him to many corners of the world.
The team began with 65 registered players aged between 5 – 15 and of many different nationalities and their first training base was the Monkey & Field Stadium in Hua Hin’s Hin Lek Fai District. It was just three months before they moved to a new home, the Hua Hin Soi 94 futsal pitch, and the team was rebranded as 94 Academy with 45 players registered.
Three successful years saw significant improvement in the majority of the players at each age level, carefully and caringly nurtured under the ever-watchful tutelage of their founder coach and his team. Along with the players' ability, membership grew to 55 players and in 2013 the team applied for and were granted entry into the inaugural Western Thailand Football Academy League (WTFAL) under the name Hua Hin Planet Academy, the first and still the only team in the area to offer regular league football to all of its young players.
The competitive WTFAL, featuring academies from Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon and Bangkok, also brought a temporary change of ground to Football Station, further along Hua Hin Soi 94, for training and home matches following the closure of their former base.
Space and financial restrictions made training and matchdays at Football Station difficult. Accordingly, it was not long before the team were on the move again, with initially 57 players able to enjoy the three spacious grass football pitches on the 110 metre x 110 metre playing fields of luxurious Dusit Thani Hua Hin, midway between Cha-am and Hua Hin from November 2013.
In exchange for the use of the facilities, the team made what is hoped to be a final name change to Dusit Thani Hua Hin Football Academy (DTHHFA) and word spread rapidly of the unrivalled benefits of the new home for training and WTFAL matches, bringing rapid increases in membership to over 80 registered players and much-improved performances on the field of play that we see today, with more league matches won than lost as the second WTFAL season approaches its close and the formation of a new Girls' team.
International tournament invites and participation have followed as the team look to push on to the next level for the 3rd WTFAL season later in the year.
With the future and several very exciting projects in mind, 14th February will see the introduction of a new Kiddy Footy programme (see below) for the Under 4s, meaning Dusit Thani Hua Hin Football Academy will be accepting all children up to and including 15 years of age.
