Shirtless and Topless Farangs
Re: Shirtless and Topless Farangs
I don't see the topless female bathers very often (I don't tend to use the beach during daylight hours), but what is the problem with males not wearing a shirt?
I see Thai males on a daily basis without a shirt on. If the locals do it, what is the problem with Farangs? There used to be the argument that Thai males had the body to go topless, where as many Farangs were flabby. However, these days I see many Thais walking around with their 7-11 stomachs that even make me feel slim .
Farang females are usually quite discreet about baring their boobs, and I must say, I've never seen a Thai female under the age of 80 walking around topless (certainly not outside of bar areas where a little free advertising might be order of the day), so yes, there should be an element of discretion. However, if the practice is banned altogether it will be yet another nail in the tourism coffin, as those ladies who like to go topless will simply go elsewhere.
I honestly don't see the problem, and as for 'the rules', what rules? It's only a fairly recent innovation that Thai females started hiding their boobs anyway.

Here's a man I totally agree with, no silly group-think - I'm so proud I'm sure he's a fellow American!Big Boy wrote:I don't see the topless female bathers very often (I don't tend to use the beach during daylight hours), but what is the problem with males not wearing a shirt?

I doubt anyone has seen a topless Farang lady in Hua Hin on a beach, it just does not happen. As for men not wearing shirts personally I do not agree with it around town but on a beach or at a pool is it quite acceptable.
Has anyone here ever been to a Thai village, the men hardly ever wear shirts once they are home they just wear Saraongs around their waist.

It certainly used to happen. It was quite prevalent when we used to come here on holiday (regular beach users); and when we have walked the beaches during the day in recent years, we normally spot a couple, baring all. As I said, they are usually quite discreet, and there is certainly no malice intended. Just a lady doing what she wants to do, whilst enjoying a bit of tropical sun. Not harming anybody.StevePIraq wrote:I doubt anyone has seen a topless Farang lady in Hua Hin on a beach, it just does not happen.

in the 10 years I have been here the only place I have seen a topless female on a beach was in Phuket and she was laying face down.

I've seen a couple of topless females on Hua Hin beach, 1 last year was being loudly berated by another female.
It just does happen..occasionally.

Re: Shirtless and Topless Farangs
I think the justification for the Thai guys who do it has little to do with them having the physique for it, and a lot to do with the fact that they're working in the heat all day.Big Boy wrote:I don't see the topless female bathers very often (I don't tend to use the beach during daylight hours), but what is the problem with males not wearing a shirt?

There are a couple of laws on dress, not that I agree with them:
It is illegal to drive a vehicle without a shirt!
It is illegal to leave home without underwear!!
I'll try and find 'chapter and verse'

Re: Shirtless and Topless Farangs
The people walking round without a shirt or wearing a tank top in public probably do the same in their own countries and are also considered morons there. Once a moron always a moron!

Re: Shirtless and Topless Farangs
Since 20 yrs. I have never seen topless farang ladies walking in the city. Sometimes at HH beach or Khao Tao (Sai Noi).
That's OK. The problem is wearing a bikini and walking around in city center or in shopping centers. Worse is shirtless men, walking in the city and going to bars, street stalls, specially fat and covered with tatoos. That's horrible.
