the hilton lording it over the locals hang out!
No idea what gave the original poster the idea that there is something stuck up about the Hilton residents.
Just spent 3 weeks there - having booked through Kuoni who threw in a few free nights it cost us 30 pounds a night total for the room, albeit without breakfast. Couldn't get a Travelodge in the UK for that! It was a great hotel, staff really friendly and facilities excellent. Only down side is it's a bit big and impersonal, and the food and drink is expensive by local standards. But then why would you want to eat and drink in the hotel with all Hua Hin has to offer?

Last time I was in Hua Hin (July) I stayed one week at the Hilton. Everything was excellent: the service, the food, the well-mannered staff, the room, the view, the "luxury" of it all. Paid dearly for the week (by local standards) but the price was nothing compared to a similar stay in North America. I think it's fine to have the Hilton looming up and over the city scape. It's a "treat" , once in a blue moon - like a night in the disco. rest of the time, coming down to reality - guesthouses are the way to go.
