Drag racing uses a rapid visual countdown of lights, basically, but a bit more involved.

The problem with countdown lights in F1 would be cars jumping the last light, rather than all drivers getting the one signal.

Aston Martin - a team to watch out for in 2023? More competition would certainly be good! :thumb:

"Aston Martin have two-time champion Fernando Alonso at the wheel and a brand new challenger set to be unveiled very soon – and the team's deputy technical chief Eric Blandin has hinted that the AMR23 will be a massive departure from last year's car.

The Silverstone-based team took seventh in the 2022 constructors' standings – level with Alfa Romeo on points – and have made no bones about their long-term title aspirations. With a new factory under construction, plus a star hire in Alonso, former Mercedes engineer Blandin said there's strong momentum at Aston Martin.

"We took all our learnings from last year's car and applied them to this year's car. So much of the AMR23 is new, it's completely different from the AMR22. We've changed more than 90 per cent of the parts and more than 95 per cent of the aerodynamic surfaces are different," said Blandin in an interview on Aston Martin's website."

Well Ford's involment in the development of the Power Unit could be interesting! Whilst Honda left Red BS and F1, there was still supposedly "technical support" there for some time - would Honda really give access to any level of technical knowledge to Ford?

"American car giant Ford is returning to Formula 1 with Red Bull after more than 22 years out of the sport.

The company will part-fund Red Bull's engine from 2026, replacing Honda.

The deal was announced as Red Bull revealed their new car livery for the 2023 F1 season at a launch event in New York on Friday.

"It's fantastic to be welcoming Ford back into Formula 1 through this partnership," said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Ford, which was last in F1 in 2004, will work to develop the power unit for Red Bull and sister team AlphaTauri from 2026 to at least 2030.

Ford says one of the key reasons for its return is its "commitment to sustainability", which aligns with F1's pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030 and to introduce sustainable fuels in F1 cars from 2026."

Well, the season kicks off in a little under 4 weeks, with the Bahrain GP over the weekend of 4th and 5th of March.

Superbru have opened up the F1 Prediction League, and as such I've set up a league for the HH Forum - those who have played in one of the leagues previously should have been invited by Email. If not, or for those members of the Forum who are interested, use the following: -

Pool Name : HHF - F1 2023
Pool Code : acesgill

https://www.superbru.com/f1/pool.php?p=12557203

Hoping PeteC will join again this season after his break from the 2022 season.....

Will be interesting to so what car actually goes out at the beginning of the season - what "improvements" are going to be left until later in the season.....

So, when are teams going to unveil their 2023 models?

Haas - January 31
Haas will be the first team to provide a glimpse of F1 2023, by revealing their new livery on January 31 at 2pm UK time.

Red Bull - February 3
The reigning constructors' champions have promised a "season launch" in New York so we hope to get the first glimpse of the new machinery that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will use.

Williams - February 6
Williams' 'season launch' launch will take place on February 6. We expect digital renderings of their 2023 car and livery, rather than a physical launch.

Alfa Romeo - February 7
Alfa Romeo will unveil their 2023 challenger, the C43, on February 7 in Zurich.

AlphaTauri - February 11
AlphaTauri's AT04 challenger will break cover in New York City on February 11.

Aston Martin - February 13
Aston Martin were the first team to announce a date for their car launch.

Their unveiling will take place on February 13, 7pm, at the team’s headquarters at Silverstone.

McLaren - February 13
McLaren will launch their 2023 F1 car on the same day as Aston Martin.

Ferrari - February 14
Ferrari became the second team to confirm their launch plans, with a Valentine's Day reveal date of February 14 for their 2023 F1 challenger.

Mercedes - February 15
Mercedes will reveal their W14 challenger on Wednesday February 15 at a digital launch event at Silverstone.

Alpine - February 16
Alpine will unveil their A523 challenger on February 16 at an event in London.

With Ford getting into it, and even better if the hi-so owners agree to allow Andretti/GM/Cadillac in, there may be things more interesting to read and follow than there has been in year's past.

I may give it a try again, but if it's the same old Mercedes/Red Bull - Hamilton/Verstappen crap I may not last the season.

Apologies - have not been keeping up with things due to certain NHS staff wishing to remove feet, some others toes, the LHG...... Well, take a guess!!

As for F1!! "Pre-Season Testing" is always hit and miss, but Crashappen and Red BS seem to be there again as favorites for the title(s). What could be interesting though is the relationships between team drivers... Crashappen and Perez (the latter pi$$ed off with team orders in the past), LH and Russell (the latter getting the better last season), Leclerc and Sainz.... Who knows??!!

Personally I dearly hope it's not a walk in the park for any team (or driver), but suspect there's going to be some great battles (Podium or not) - drivers within teams and teams themselves obviously.

Hopefully a far better season than last!! Remember the Picks Guys!! :D

Well, in an act of utter brilliance, I decided to wait until after Qualifying to make my picks.... And still managed to utterly stuff things up and come dead last!! :banghead:

Not so for PeteC who takes the Yellow Cap on his return to the Prediction League -

Mercedes off the pace again, but hopes for improvement.... Superb race from Alonso taking 3rd and a Podium finish on his debut for Aston Martin..... Adding a further kick in the teeth to Mercedes who provide AS with their engines and also use of their Wind Tunnel!!

Despite the joy of Alonso's third place, you forgot to mention that Max Verstappen won and Sergio Perez is second.

Well yes, but that's just boredom  :D

Did have a lot of sympathy for Leclerc though.

As Bamboo Grove said, if I can find enjoyment in beer after a few decades, maybe I can enjoy the F1. I'm a race behind but I've a good feeling about this one...

Done me first picks. Hamilton for the win, yes? :D

If I successfully make all my picks from now, and I come above anyone by the end... shame on that anyone. Shame.

Don't forget to make your picks before Qualifying - good luck to all (well, those not supporting Crashappen and Co. anyway)! :thumb:
