Like you say mate, the only thing to do is walk your same route and make sure they see you go somewhere else, or take a wee packed lunch down with you and sit outside their place, explain that not all falangs are rich and you cant afford to pay 120 baht for a nibble. Give me a shout if you wanna do te last one.. could be a bit of a laugh!
We could make it an HHAD picnic! Gotta be worth it to see their faces!
No more than five lunchboxes though, could get you into trouble, with the current 'coup' laws.
I have to agree with OnlyMe and Rider on this one. If the menu is in Thai only and you still want to eat there get them to tell you in Thai what they are assuming you know enough Thai to understand which I think you do. You will get a general feel for the prices anyway.
I always expect to pay a bit more for beachside but that is Sofitel prices or more (no pun intended).
I also have a feeling that there are places who are set up next to a well known reputable restaurant and ctach people who have ended up at the wrong place and just simply rip them off.
Problem is in Thailand is that the law is always in favour of the restaurant so I think you have done the bext thing possible by naming and shaming.
I believe this site should have a forum set aside explicitly for that purpose.

Yes, if you want to be sure of the price, of course you check the menu or ask the price, I even mentioned that in my original post.
I didn't check the menu and it wouldn't matter if it was only in Thai, cos I can read it. I ordered a snack of fried pork, which probably isn't even on the menu, it normally only is with rice.
What a boring topic, really wish I hadn't started it.

Has been considered but there would be some serious repercussions for HHAD if we did it, especially with Thai businesses.
However Buk, there is a website specifically set up that I use with a vengence if rip-offs occur. Its called fair-price thailand (google it will get you the website).
It's UK Registered and owned so its proof 'gainst the thai shenanigans! Or at least it must be to last the five or so years its been running!:)
I reckon for HHAD as long as naming and shaming took place for locations outside of HH city limits there should be little or no comeback. And as long as everyone kept shtum about HHAD to any thais that poked their nose around.
Same deal everywhere we go, can't beat the good old entrance fees to national parks though huh? I usually just show my work permit and explain, in Thai, that I am paying tax and I'm going in for the same price as the guys with the sticky rice and beer chang.
Villa boy- Maybe you should go back and take your work permit, maybe they will give you 'lacar korn Thai'

What's the difference between naming and shaming a Thai business,
who rips off the Farang and
a Farang Business, who are not allowed to be named and shamed here
when ripping off a Farang?

Just a point I'd like to query.

Why is one allowed but not the other?????
It's a fair point, except that the OP doesn't name or even specifically identify the restaurant in question, and I think it is the same as saying 'such and such farang restaurant is nice but a bit pricey' which is acceptable. The policy on naming and shaming is there to protect the site from legal action which might occur, but in a small instance like this that is not relevant.
Keeping in mind that we would not want HHAD to get into any trouble.
You lot get yourselves into enough trouble without the help of anyone else.
Easy words to say from distance. Wanderlust is correct. The moderators are all clued up enough to know when to name and shame and when to silence.
Ther are many factors that dictate the decision. Being Thai or Farang is not one of them. If you actually stop and think about it you will realise that naming and shaming Thai businesses could have greater implications than doing the same with farang businesses. QED I think.
Anyway the OP is known to most of us and would certainly not have made the post if it had not been true. It is quite right to shame the perpretraors of these petty but annoying incidents. It damages tourism which in turn affects the lives of local Thai and Farang residents alike. As wanderlust said no name was mentioned anyway.
This kind of report cannot be compared the posting of a grieved farang who has a grudge against another farang over a business deal. That sort of thing should be dealt with through the proper channels and after settlement then OK to publicise.
I think that is what your compatriot Mr. Rupert Murdick would have to do.
