I bought a Vigo 3 months ago, and ended up with a good deal from Toyota Petchburi. Toyota HH were not really interested in giving me the free extras that Petchburi offered without any problems.

Mind you they "forgot' to fit the nudgebar on delivery. This was quickly rectified at the first service

They even gave me a super discount on leather interior.

My opinion, unless you need the 7 seats in the Fortuner, you get get 99% same car with the Vigo at about 200 k less cash!

Yes, but they have a four door model with full back seats and a shorter cargo bed. Pete

The Fortuner is based on the Vigo and if you take close look, you will find that they are mechanically the same apart from the fact that a Fortuner has coil springs on the rear axle whereas the Vigo uses leaf springs so that Thais can carry three tons in the back of a one ton pick-up.
The interior is virtually the same as well. The difference in price is partly due to the fact that a Fortuner commands 18% purchase tax as a PPV (passenger derived pick-up vehicle) and a Vigo gets the 12% rate of a four door pick-up, and partly marketing.
One good reason for having a pick-up is if you have a Thai partner. I can tell you that when you happen to be visiting Issan in your shiny new Fortuner, and you bump into your neighbour at the local market, you won’t cut much ice with him when you have to explain he can’t put four piglets and a sack of fertilizer in the back of your car because the carpet might get dirty!

Still both based on a Builder's Pick Up, cant get away from it.

Actually they are both based on the IMV Platform, which was designed to be multi-purpose. It is not only the Vigo and Fortuner that use the IMV Platform, although the Innova, 2.0 Litre 7 Seat MPV built in Indonesia.

So its not correct to ay that either are based on a Pickup:-

The Vigo needs not to be based on a Pick UP, simply because it is one!

The Fortuner is an IMV derivative, and as such makes it much more that a Pick Up.

Bearhug, your statement is correct for all previous Pick Ups, and their drivative SUVs, but its not correct for the IMV Project.

Steve G, actually their are many more differences between the Vigo and the Frotuner than the ones that you list, in terms of perfromance, specification and safety features.

I beleive that Toyota do offer an optional Pig Rack for the Fortuner!

If your main consern is the top speed and the time from standstill to 100 k's, then you are buying the wrong type of car!!!!

Fortuners and Vigos are hardly built for high performance and speed. More so for durabilityand safety

The 70 litre diesel will cover about 800 - 850 kms

Formula 1 cars they are not!!!!!

The 3.0 turbo diesels have quite a kick to them though. I speak from the model before the Vigo, the Tiger. If you know how to use a clutch and your tac, from a stop light you can get to 100kph I would say in about 9-10 seconds. My Tiger has some kind of a device where the engine shuts down flat if you red line even for 2 seconds. I assume a safety feature to avoid blowing up the engine.

Stu-Pot is right though, you don't want to be doing that stuff often, or worrying about top speeds here unless you have limitless red notes in your shirt pocket for the MIB, or are married to the Thai daughter of someone important. Pete

I tried my brother inlaws new vigo 3 weeks ago and it is defenitely much more faster than any other pickups I have tried over the past 15 years in Thailand. But, I admit, that it is not as fast ( 0-100 km/h) as my BMW 330I here in Farangland...

My inlaw had a smal sticker in the midle of the speedometer with 170 on it(tipicaly thai) . Do that sounds like it could be the top speed ?
