Bjorn Lindblad died at 5 am this morning.
He was a father of 2, he loved life and lived for fun times. He loved to play pool and listen to proper music - he liked Floyd, Clapton, Boneshakers.. a blues man at heart.
Was a pleasure to have known him and I count him as a great friend.. one who would go out of his way to help if he could.
My thoughts are with his family, particularly his sons.
RIP friend

Sincere condolances to his family

5 Years ago I contemplated achieving my dream as a biker and buy a Harley

So many of my friends, big bikers and small bikers have come to grief, as also many car drivers, that I've retreated into hiring or using a tuk tuk

No matter how careful you are you have to bare in mind the state of other drivers

Anybody know where you can buy a tank!!!

Once again, my thoughts are with the family

Yes, big jimmy, as the first comment was directed to me, I'm assuming this one is too. I'll agree I'm stupid to occasionally use motorbike taxis without a helmet, but I'm wondering about your intelligence when you continue to harp on about the cost aspect when I specifically told you the reason I use public transport is because I can't drive. Nothing to do with money! Again, on 2 separate threads I have asked if anyone has any suggestions other than carrying 2 crash helmets everywhere I go outside of my house all the time (no bike, nowhere to leave them!) and I've never had an answer.
So, OK, I guess it has to be taxis all the time. Then it does get financial, as it will be 12,000 bt a month just to get to & from a job that doesn't pay me, never mind anywhere else I want to go. Well, so be it.

JW, I'm terribly sorry about your friend. What a dreadful thing to happen. Praying for a miracle...
Dawn...my comments were not aimed at you at all..but as you have contributed to this debate..i'll put my tuppence in.......if money is not an object for you then why don't you learn to drive ?...even you can't drive, buy a car and hire a driver,it must be cheaper than 12,000 baht a month in taxis..?..or buy a helmet and put it in back pack..its worth the inconvenience if it saves your life....just a few suggestions for you to mull over..

This is very sad news to me as I have known Bjorn quite well, he is a good laugh person, he is a friend!
I feels so angry to that tuk tuk driver and many of them are pissed but still drive, and my personal I never like them, quite every time when I see them that they are siting around and have a LHAO KAO or Thai whiskey next to them and some time they have pour the whiskey into the empty red bull's bottle just to hind from people, they drink those stuff straight without ice, soda or cola, can you imagine how strong of those Thai whiskey.
I finished work 10pm today and I have walk to find the bike taxi home, I walked pass the tuk tuks on the Hilton street and they were asking me if they could take me to my house without any charge, and they were pissed, so I was feel so angry about what happens to one of our friend-then I told them to F*** off!

Use a taxi (Car) a bit more of the cost but its safe than the tuk tuks or Bike, and pls put the helmet on when your driving a Bike!

We will miss you Bjorn....

I echo the sentiments of Oe. I too knew Bjorn quite well and will miss him.

I think all the advise about helmets is good and people should get in the habit of wearing them.

Drunken Tuk Tuk drivers is another issue and also needs to be addressed but I fear that it will be a much harder nut to crack. Oe has the right idea though. If you suspect the driver to be drunk then don't travel with him and take his number. Report him to the police. Many people make the presumption that they do nothing but they do record reports of crime especially if coming from a farang tourist. Eventually if enough noise is made on one topic something will be done. You have to start somewhere.

At present though we have no evidence that the driver was drunk but I believe that at minimum he was driving inconsiderately and recklessly.

I have recently had a near miss with a Tuk Tuk myself where the guy moved to the right hand side of the road and then swung left. I guessed his intention by the erratic way he was driving and braked in time. I pressed the horn for a while and the idiot then suddenly decided to put on his left indicator. This was right opposite JW's old office.

What I have noticed over the three years that I have lived in the center of Hua Hin, is that many of the serious accidents happen when there is little traffic around.

My plea to everybody is wear a good helmet always, never ride drunk and always expect the unexpected, especially when there is little traffic around. You only have to hit one vehicle or even just the kerb to get killed.

If you can afford it, get a truck or car and never use motorcycle taxis or Tuk Tuks unless there is absolutely no alternative.

Bjorn Lindblad RIP

Not stupid, tight keeniow.

They are educated, its their choice, bet they feel real hard riding their silly little bike's without safety attire.

Bet 90% do not have a license or the basic training.
Why get angry, feel the music

Yes with real regret one hell of a nice guy. I here though that he was pushed by a tuk tuk wanting to get past, made a gesture to the tuk and he in return clipped his handlebars taking him off the bike. Ohh yes and then dicided to run off ....... what can you say other than put your helmets on

Another bike fatality. Sorry to hear the local expat community has lost a friend.

Even with a helmet on you're still not going to win too many debates with a car, or truck, especially in the cheap buckets that pass for helmets in Thailand.

Leave the bikes for the race track and get around in a vehicle. If you can't afford that, sorry you need to get a better job, or give some more thought to your 'retirement' plans.
