Apparently this mad sounding approach actually works, there is a whole town in Holland now with no road markings and the accident rate has dropped.

There are four of these near me, its true, no pavements, allocated parking areas - not just along the kerb, but facing the curb, at an angle. Its great, you can really go for pedestrians as you take the chicanes this arrangement has created, especially when a car is coming from the opposite direction - you get them squeezed right in against the gardens!!! :P

I'm surprised no-one has been killed!

same over here on soi 72, vans, bikes and cars using the night market road after 4pm, municipality police too busy watching DVDs than bothering with motorbikes, another accident waiting to happen.
