When the Elite card was introduced it struck me as yet another of those schemes whereby the mega-rich Chinese ruling classes believed that their Farang counterpart were in the same league.
These people live in cloud-cuckoo-land. Many are the times I have surprised colleagues by telling them that my background is closer to the maids that keep our institute sparkly clean than to them. And I guess that goes for many Farang living and working in Thailand.
If I recall, Toxin and his boys were targeting a million cards getting sold. At one point it was stalled at about 250. But then they gave some away to people like the Beckhams - as if they needed them! I think the Elite Card has a 'membership' of about 1000+. So, 0.1% of the way to that target of Toxin's!
A little bit of very simple market research might have informed these people that 1 in 10 visitors to the Land of Guiles are not going to shell out a million Baht on such a hair-brained scheme.
