Well, I took your advice and got the sonthaews for a swim. Did 20 lengths. But, I got a bit sunburnt so have stayed indoors for the past few days.
I've still got another 6 months or so to sort myself out

I notice they asked about driving with seatbelt.

If they added the question of riding a motorcycle without a helmet, and asked for your country of residence. I think the life expectancy of anyone in Thailand answering ‘no’ or ‘sometimes’ would be along the lines of a WWI fighter pilot.
