Shock horror - as I left the lodge there was a road grader at work on our access road.

Yep - the road grader has been at work.

Of course - I don't know how long our newer smooth road will last - until the next convoy of 10 wheelers arrive I guess.

Anyway - matters fishy!!!!!!!

Our Giant Siamese Carp are now being regularly caught at 8+ kg.

Since they were introduced three years ago as fingerlings, they've been packing on the weight at an impressive rate.
I'm convinced that there is possibly a 10kg specimen lurking around in my ponds - or there will soon be one caught.

So - as a way of brightening up the angling community I'm offering a THB1,000 reward for the first person to successfully land a 10kg Giant Siamese Carp - Pla Cohor as weighed and checked by either myself or my staff.

Delighted to say that the Pla Cohor (Giant Siamese Carp) record at HHFL was totally blasted yesterday evening.

Previously at 9.4kg - yesterday saw a beautiful 10.9kg specimen landed.

So - as I cannot stop my fish growing

I'm moving the goalposts in the contest -

There is now a THB 1,000 reward for the first 12 kg specimen to be landed. Methinks this may be a little more trickier.

But what better excuse do you need for a days fishing eh?

ALSO

We are just completing proving runs on our new tour boat. Last week was Pranburi Dam, yesterday we did Kaeng Krachan Dam and she performs superbly on the water. Just ironing out 'staff training' right now but if anyone is interested for a looksee, PLA YAI MEE TEE NAI is on the trailer at the lodge.

As far as I know, there is no public trailer access although I have not looked too much. My guess is, it would be hard to find as it would mean competition to the cartel of tour boats and water taxis.

We launch from a private location in return for spending some time afterwards in their restaurant

The Pla Cohor sure was a nice one - the guy was fishing for Nin to make Tom Yum. He got a nasty surprise when his rod almost disappeared into the pond.

i go to kaeng krachan two times a week and like terry says its very much tied up with the organised boats and it also has a guard at the entance who logs cars in and out im quite sure it closes at six too ,a warden drives round to check everyone has left ,

Nice Cohor - my guess at around 15 -17 kg?

Cohor are deceiving wrt size and weight. I have had two almost identical sized fish - one weighed 8kg the other 6.5kg.

Anyway - in answer to your question.

Frankly - who knows!
They are capable of reaching 100kg + as a species.
I fully expect mine to exceed 50kg with ease.
Right now the record at my place is 10.9kg. This is from a fish that was one of the 250 that we put in our ponds at barely 0.4kg, 4 years ago.
So - at a growth rate of in excess of 2.5kg / year - (Without hormone feeds etc - I don't believe in them) - we could see our first 20kg specimen as a Christmas present in 2012!

Anyway we keep a watchful eye on their growth rate.

The other 'monster growers' that we have are two Alligator Gar. They were introduced to keep the Pla Nin numbers down. These went in at 1.8 kg each in May this year. I caught one of them two months later at 3.8kg! Lord knows what they are now - my baitman believes possibly more than 5kg already.
