The 'mai pen rai' attitude is one of the reasons why I love living here. However, it's one of the attitudes that drives me crazy when it comes to work or something seriously going wrong....

Speak for yerself mate ... I'd end up with a 16 year old at that rate

Obviously the goods outweigh the bads with regards to living here full time and going through all the ups and downs beyond the holiday blues - otherwise we'd all be living in the Philippines!

I do agree largely with the OP though that locals in business here simply aren't bothered about customer service and repeat business, its as if the biz is a hobby and its not a problem if it fails (which many do). It may also go back to that old sufficiency Buddhist notion that 'less is more'.

Naturally government services such as electricity and internet are going to be shocking as nothing is ever invested in improving it ... there are too many pockets to fill first!

To me the quality of life we can have here goes hand-in-hand with the all the things that frustrate the hell out of us here.

Great init :D

Have to agree with Jockey there Tel - sounds like you need a pint or 3 - or maybe a little break back in Bumbleside, where its rained pretty consistently now for more days than I can remember. But the water bill is staring at me menacingly, my dentist wants me to fork out over 800 quid, the Inland Revenue still haven't sorted out a complaint after 14 months of waiting, and the Bridge Board won't reduce the tolls.
Oh - and theres a new scam with computerised call back systems which start to charge premium rate when you key in a number. And a call to Microsoft Support cost me 13 quid, and David Davies got flippin re-elected!
Cheer up duck. Nowt can be as bad as a stopover at Moscow airport
