To be honest it's not a great deal, and it means you've not got to worry about ISPs traffic-shaping, farting about with routers, etc, it's just a straight http download, and from sites like rlslog.net it's verified and checked. Also I tend to use the storage they provide you with for a few personal projects so I guess there's extra value in it for me.

Ok, just wondered what the advantages were. Leased line here so no ISP or router problems and if you're familiar with torrents you tend to know the wheat from the chaff anyway!
Maybe this one should be moved to the Digital Realm section as it may be of use to those frustrated by the lack of intelligence displayed by the manager of the Hua Hin cinema

1. Firefox + Flashgot + Flashget + someone else's internet
2. Highlight a bunch of links
3. Choose flashgot selection
4. Instant download at 600k/s. No waiting for it to speed up, no faff, just queue it all up, leave flashget in the background, have a cuppa, do whatever, and your stuff arrives fast as a bastard.
And don't forget, not everyone is as fortunate as you not to have to deal with routers. When 'borrowing' other people's internet you have to take what you're given!

I do have to deal with the router, thats the point - we have a leased line and our own dedicated IP address - I just login remotely through the configured router and line em up.
Not sure whats more unethical, downloading pirate movies or 'borrowing' someone elses internet

City of Ghosts?? With James Caan? Business deal gone wrong? If so great movie! If not I'll watch!
- router not configured
- ISP traffic-shaping (btw we ALL have ISPs, someone's providing our link to the internet)
- Not enough people sharing the file
- Not enough people sharing the file with decent bandwidth
P2P is hassle to be honest, I'm lazy and like my easy rapidshare.

Yep.. most people don't know how though, and in my case, borrowing the internet I can't really fuck about with the router cos it's not mine and I don't know the passwords for it (tried the defaults for popular brands obviously...)buksida wrote:I do have to deal with the router, thats the point - we have a leased line and our own dedicated IP address - I just login remotely through the configured router and line em up.

I think we've officially hijacked this thread
One of those pesky mods will show me that damn bullseye in a minute.
Obviously its not flawless but P2P works fine providing:
1) You have a decent internet connection
2) You know what you're looking for
3) You have a little technical knowledge
4) You have a decent internet connection
That said I may investigate your method also.

I've been using P2P for years to be honest, from Napster in the early days through kazaa, edonkey, flock and torrents, but I just find rapidshare is so much easier. I can shift several GB of content in a day, no effort required.buksida wrote:I think we've officially hijacked this threadOne of those pesky mods will show me that damn bullseye in a minute.

Super Tonic,
Can you explain to me, as i am obviously a bit stupid, what you mean by someone else's internet? Why is that a part of using the system you are for downloading stuff? Surely your own internet connection is always the limiting factor on how quickly you can get anything? Or am I missing something here?

I'm just using someone else's internet for downloads cos my hutch is shit. It's not essential, basically any good internet connection will do. In fact the advantage of my method is that it's even ok for poor internet connections in that P2P will tend to just stop where rapidshare does do something (even if it's slow). And for reasons of not wishing to incriminate myself further I'll not elaborate any further on borrowing internet.Wanderlust wrote:Super Tonic,
