I've often spoken about the antiquated check out methods used by Shopee. A couple of friends convinced me they had improved vastly from the dark ages when I last used them. I've reluctantly given Shopee another try, and I'm pleased to report their systems are now as slick as Lazada, but shipping costs are less, and prices are generally cheaper also.

Haven't used Shopee but I've found that JD.com was a fair bit cheaper than Laz for a number of items, and most are free shipping. Website is a bit clunky though.

When we talk about pricing from Lazada, it should be noted that it's the merchants that dictate the price, not Lazada.

Recently, while looking for a filter pump for the kid's pool, I saw the exact same pump from different suppliers ranging from 1,150 baht to around 3,000. Not a different model or manufacturer but exactly the same pump.
The pool itself was advertised by merchants with differences of almost 2,000 baht. Same pool!

I've recently bought some accessories for playing pool. Once again, you can find different prices from different merchants.

Whilst I agree to shopping around the various online platforms, it's also valid to shop around within the same platform. There are some surprises.

Agree, after looking at the chili sauce thread, I got a hankering for some Carolina Reaper sauce. Prices on Laz ranged from 89 baht to 199 for the same bottle! Three are scorching their way here now.

The better half and myself regularly buy everything from phones to facemasks on Lazada but I must say I got surprised here one day when actually searching for a cycling shorts and with a wrong click (honestly) ended up in the women's underwear department  and observed page after page with sex toys  :D Have :tsk: the conservative elite finally done a 180 turnaround?? Anyway great for them who like, need and use this kind of toys. :D

Haha...... I just had to check that out. Yep, you're right. Hundreds of them.
However, it does point out that you can't buy them from Lazada as it's illegal and directs you to their own website.
So, the question is: How does Lazada make any money from their 'adverts'?

I've been happily using the re-vamped Shopee page, and have successfully bought a few items - just as easy as Lazada.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Today, I received a stark reminder of why I vowed to never use Shopee again. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

When I got to the checkout, there was no Cash On Delivery option. Oh Flump!!! we really needed this item, and it wasn't available elsewhere at this price. Pay at 7-11 is usually an option, but not with Shopee. I thought about it, and eventually chose the bank transfer option, which is what I would use if going direct to a regular company.

Immediately, I'm presented with this:

I made the transfer, and then had to complete this:

So, I've paid my money and now have to wait to see if my transaction has been accepted. About 1 hour later, my order is updated, and my item is being processed. In my opinion, having to upload documents and send them electronically is primitive in this modern world. It was only the fact the item was not available anywhere else at a sensible price that I completed the transaction.

I think you'll find many Thais have QR code payment systems integrated into Line/AIS/True/RAbbit or whatever they use on their phones. It takes seconds to pay for something.

Its a brave new world!

Probably, but why tout ancient technology, when its scaring people off, when they are really wanting you to go down another road? Surely, they should be sign posting the way that is easiest :?

Looks like shipping charges on Laz have been hiked. Used to be 43 baht for most items, now rarely pay less than 64 baht regardless of what is ordered or how large/small/light/heavy the package is. When you're buying something small or cheap, it may be more cost-effective to go to the physical shop again if they have the same item!

Have to spend several thousand to get anything shipped free these days.

Can't think what it was now, but something we ordered recently, we had to pay well in excess of 200฿ shipping costs.

I think you have to be selective with what you buy - last week I bought 3 packs of five 3volt batteries that I use in a variety of items (car remote, kitchen scales, bathroom scales) and for the 15 batteries the cost was just 60 Baht. Even though I had to pay 45 Baht delivery cost, it worked out at just 7 Baht per battery - I’d probably have to pay 10 times that if I went to Homepro or Thai Watsadu

Exactly, I think that is the point. Even with the additional charge, it still works out cheaper and more convenient to buy online.
