Fisherman accidentally harpoons his own face in eastern Thailand
https://thethaiger.com/news/national/fi ... n-thailand
A fisherman from Rayong province in eastern Thailand accidentally speared himself in the face with a fish harpoon yesterday. He is now in stable condition.
Yesterday afternoon, 30 year old Sarot from Rayong’s Chamao district went fishing with some friends at the Mor Mui Reservoir in the Pluak Daeng district. He dived into the water and tried to spear a fish, but his fish harpoon “exploded” and the dart launched into his face.
The harpoon pierced through Sarot’s left cheek and all the way through his nose. Sarot stayed calm and left the spear impaled in his face.
Sarot’s friends put him in a saleng (a sidecar attached to a motorbike) and drove him to the Pluak Daeng Rescue Centre, more than 10 kilometres away from the reservoir.
During the journey, Sarot “lost a lot of blood, turned very pale and his pulse began to disappear,” said his friend. Rescue workers did some preliminary first aid when Sarot arrived and rushed him to Pluak Daeng Hospital.
Doctors at Pluak Daeng Hospital surgically removed the fish harpoon from Sarot’s face. He is currently recovering from the incident in the hospital and his condition is stable.
Sarot’s 39 year old friend Rung Arun, another fisherman, said he saw Sarot dive into the water and emerge shortly afterwards with a spear lodged in his face.
Pluak Daeng Rescue Worker, 31 year old Pornchai Kan-ngoern, said rescue workers followed all the necessary steps to ensure that the injured Sarot got to the hospital quickly and safely..............

Tough times in Wales:
Woman charges family members $27 for Christmas meal: 'It's very fair'
https://au.news.yahoo.com/woman-charges ... 56747.html
A cost-of-living crisis has families right across the world thinking how they can save this Christmas.
But one grandmother in the UK has raised eyebrows with her decision to charge family for their festive meal.
Pricing ranges from £15 ($27) for male adults to £2.50 ($4.50) for the smallest grandchildren and despite a bit of backlash, Cardiff resident Caroline Duddridge is standing by her decision.
"There's a few out there who think I'm a bit of a Scrooge but my friends think it's quite a good idea," she told the BBC.
Ms Duddridge's controversial move was initially sparked by the death of her husband in 2015 which drastically reduced her household income.
And with grocery prices surging in the past year, her call will undoubtedly leave other families considering a similar move as they struggle to feed the whole family over Christmas.
The Australian Red Cross found that 54 per cent of respondents to a recent survey will find it harder to connect and celebrate with loved ones this year due to price hikes.
Groceries in Australia have risen by nearly 10 per cent in the past year, according to the Frugl Grocery Price Index.

Expensive wrapping:
Man's hilarious $110 mistake wrapping presents - but can you see what's wrong?
https://au.news.yahoo.com/mans-hilariou ... 22749.html
Very few of us enjoy wrapping presents, so spare a thought for one gift bearer whose attempts this Christmas led to a family feud.
In a now-viral tweet, Irish man Daniel revealed his brother had grabbed a roll of what he thought was wrapping paper, but turned out to be his mum's new wallpaper.
“My brother used, as wrapping paper, the €70 ($110) wallpaper that Mum had bought to redecorate rooms. Cannot cope ahahah," he wrote. “First Christmas argument underway.
He shared a photo of the roll and the pile of presents in question.
The tweet quickly garnered a huge response, with close to 190,000 likes and more than 12 million views. He told curious users he had no idea how his brother had managed to mistake it as wrapping paper, while agreeing with one person the wallpaper was "rancid".
"Donations if desired to Sharon's renovation fund," he joked.
The wallpaper, named Wild Flower Teal, is made by UK company Graham & Brown and retails for $135 in Australia.
Head of Brand at the company, Alan Kemp, reached out to Daniel to offer the family a replacement roll.
"As it’s the season of goodwill, and peace to all, I’m sure I can arrange a free replacement roll. So no need to argue!" he said.
As you can imagine, hundreds were in hysterics over the mistake.
And many suggested the brother had done the family "a favour" by using it. "Christmas may be ruined but he saved your house," one person said.
Earlier in December, an Aussie mum's wrapping paper mistake prompted a host of laughs on Facebook, after she failed to notice an x-rated detail on a roll of paper bought from Typo.

'We've got a two-legged fox on the lawn'
A family were stunned to find a fox with just two legs in their garden.
Phil and Jane Carter, from Ilkeston in Derbyshire, often get visited by foxes and this one stayed for about 45 minutes.
Mr Carter said: "My wife shouted, 'quick, grab your phone, we've got a two-legged fox on the lawn'.
"We had about five minutes of it going around the lawn smelling and picking up some meat and then off it went like a rocket."
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust said: "We've never seen anything like this in the wild before but the animal looks relatively healthy and appears to have adapted to life on two legs."
This is the way

Swan Brings M4 Motorway Traffic to Halt Near Newport
"Motorists were left in a flap after a swan brought morning traffic on a motorway to a standstill.
The bird forced a lane of the M4 to be temporarily closed near Newport, causing lengthy tailbacks at about 10:30 GMT on Sunday .
Motorists travelling eastbound were advised to exit the motorway at junction 27 and rejoin at junction 26 Malpas while the swan was rescued.
The lane has since re-opened and queues have cleared, Traffic Wales said."
