Here's some comforting news for all you Brits, Briton to be locked down for the remainder of the year.

My favorite part of the article is the sentence, that you can click on, where the BBC tells you why you can trust the BBC.

Reminds of Nixon saying, "Trust me, I'm not a crook." No implications meant.

There is absolutely no trace of this story on the BBC website, anywhere. Either it's been removed or it was a scam site.

handdrummer wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:36 am How will they know if someone is allergic to the vaccine?
We're talking about doctors and scientists. Many have been working with vaccines all their lives. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing!!

From my tiny knowledge of allergies. Anyone can develop an allergy to pretty much anything even if they didn't have an allergy before.
You being, "pretty sure" is of no comfort to me. Oh, and how long is "all their lives?" Did they start when they were children or just after birth?

Considering my experiences with doctors, I'm not inclined to believer or trust them. Hopefully, you're experiences are different.
Vaccine Allergy: A Closer Look
A vaccine allergy is an extremely rare type of allergy, with only one to two serious allergic reactions being reported per million vaccinations given. But when a vaccine allergy does occur, it can be very serious, even life-threatening.
What Is a Vaccine Allergy?

Researchers believe that most people who have a vaccine allergy have an allergic sensitivity to one of two common vaccine ingredients: gelatin or egg protein.

Gelatin is used to help preserve viral components of the following vaccines:

Diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis /DTaP (Tripedia)
Influenza (Fluzone, Flumist)
Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR II, Priorix)
Measles (Attenuvax)
Mumps (Mumpsvax)
Rubella (Meruvax II)
Rabies (Rabavert)
Shingles (Zostavax)
Varicella (Varivax)
Egg proteins are used to produce some vaccines including:

Influenza
Measles, mumps, and rubella
Yellow fever
If you are allergic to eggs, or have had an allergic reaction after eating a gelatin-containing food, you are at higher risk of having a vaccine allergy.

Symptoms of a Vaccine Allergy

Symptoms of a severe vaccine allergy may include:

Problems breathing
Weakness
Dizziness
Wheezing
Coughing
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Low blood pressure
Increased heart rate
Hives
Pale skin
Throat swelling
These symptoms usually come on quickly, within a few minutes or a few hours after receiving the vaccination. They are signs of anaphylaxis, which is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. If you, or anyone around you, experiences signs of anaphylaxis, contact emergency medical personnel immediately.

Other common reactions to vaccines, such as fever, pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site, or a mild rash, usually come on later and are usually not serious. But contact your doctor if you have any worrisome symptoms after receiving a vaccination.

Managing a Vaccine Allergy

Since people with a vaccine allergy become sensitized after being exposed to the allergen the first time, they are at high risk for future allergic reactions to vaccines. Subsequent allergic reactions to vaccines are usually more serious than the first.

Talk with your doctor if you have had symptoms of an allergic reaction after a vaccination, or if you are concerned that you may be at risk of having an allergic reaction from a vaccine. An allergist or immunologist may perform a skin prick or blood test to determine if you have a vaccine-associated allergy.

People who have a vaccine allergy can usually still get their recommended vaccinations. Methods for giving vaccinations to people with a vaccine allergy may involve:

Using an alternative form of the vaccine that you are not allergic to
Taking antihistamine or corticosteroid medications before your vaccination to help prevent or decrease an allergic reaction
Getting vaccinated under the supervision of your doctor in the presence of lifesaving medical equipment (for example, at an equipped clinic or hospital)
Testing for immunity to the disease being vaccinated against, and forgoing the vaccination if you already have immunity
Vaccinations are important for your health and the health of those around you. If you are concerned about a vaccine allergy, talk with your doctor, who can recommend a vaccination schedule that will be safe and effective for you.
So you see, although extremely rare, it has been addressed quite extensively.

Not being a Trumpian, I'll stick with the science!

A big underlying factor also is if the companies they worked for will even still exist when the virus threat is gone or less. It's going to be reinvent the wheel time I'm afraid.

My daughter has been very fortunate. The restaurant she was working for is paying half her normal wages for no work as they are not open for take-aways. Not something I've heard elsewhere.

I know this is about Trump but it's devastating news and deserves more than the 'Trump' thread.
Since he suggested hitting the body with intense UV rays and proposing an injection of disinfectant, every doctor and medical professional in the world is outraged. All pleading with people not to try drinking disinfectant. As one doctor put it.
"Clorox, Tide Pods and Lysol will kill coronavirus. No question about it. But if you are infected then the coronavirus is inside your cells. If you use any of those disinfectants to kill the coronavirus in your own cells then you'll die right along with the coronavirus."
We all laugh at his moronic statements but they're getting more and more dangerous. Remember the couple who took fish tank cleaner because it contained hydroxycloroquine. One died and the other had to be treated in hospital. What's the betting that someone in the next week or so is going to die having drunk disinfectant. I'm sure it will happen.

He proves his incompetence day in and day out but surely this last episode has the evidence to diagnose him medically and psychologically unfit and have him removed from office. Not the same as an impeachment.

I won't give any links as there are literally dozens of them.

Two Bakersfield doctors cite their testing data to urge reopening.
And they find the fatality rate is as little as 0.03%. Seasonal flu is typically 0.1%

Their findings are not borne out by the facts. The confirmed cases they quote are not a random sample but from tests of people showing symptoms. Therefore extrapolating that figure would be inaccurate.

Leading epidemiologists disagree with their analysis pointing out various flaws in their 'calculations'.

If they had a bunch of medical/viral experts behind them it would bear discussion. But they don't!
They talk very eloquently but I believe they were thinking of an end result, then attempting to match the data to produce the required result.

Until I hear information that gives them credibility, it will be filed under 'pending'.
