As a number of people have mentioned before, these downpours can be very localised and what you get in one area canbe very different just a km away - on a number of occasions I've driven from here to HH on a rainy day and you often drive through areas that are flooded and then hit dry roads and go on a bit further to be met with more flooding. We've been having steady but not too heavy rain for the past hour.

^ I guess that's why the rain passed so quickly it was a very localized small fast moving storm; but for 20 minutes it would have been similar to standing under Niagara Falls!

Next door neighbour had a leaky roof last night, so I guess it happened - I was just oblivious to it. Normally the dogs tell us when there's bad weather (or fireworks) by asking to be allowed inside the house - no scratching on the door last night.

Great Halloween photos BB. Any in the East here tonight will need wiper blades on the lens. Torrential this afternoon actually closing many roads completely, and now unfortunately raining again as the little ones embark on their neighborhood haunting. :( Chin up though...candy and fun makes up for wet clothes and feet! Pete

Anyone heading for Bangkok this evening better be prepared, if what is building up in the east and south lets loose!

A line of tropical lows from well east of the Phillipines all the way to India are being fed by a big high pressure region in the South China Sea.

^ Reports I've been reading all day are calling for heavy rain in the East, and in the Hua Hin area through Monday. Pete

They/you were correct Pete - one of the heaviest downpours I've seen, the heavens literally opened the flood gates for just under an hour.

^ Yes, us too over here. How about that, forecasts that actually came true! :alien:  Kind of pretty now as heavy showers with the sun out in areas and rainbows all over the place.......to be replaced by the next wave of dark clouds and heavy rain about every 30 minutes. That cycle has been going on all day so far. Pete

I bet all of you are glad it is now November!
My buddy L from Canada arrived in HH last week, and said he was
taking you all some nice hot and sunny days ahead!
Sounds like you all had enough of the rain in October.
Here in Canada where I live, we had about 3 to 4 inches of snow
fall in one day and over night. I guess that is 10 or 15 cms worth
of the white stuff. Thank god it is melting now and should be gone in 3 or 4 days.

Hua Hin hit by flooding
Hours of heavy rain since late Monday resulted in flooding in many low-lying areas in Hua Hin municipality.  Three housing estates - Pong Nares, Royal Home and Country Hill - on Soi Hua Hin 102 were badly hit in the third round of flooding this year. Almost 100 households were affected.

Floodwater rose to between 80-100cm in the three housing estates. Residents rushed to move their belongings, cars and motorcycles to higher ground.

The flooding prompted Nopporn Wutthikul, Hua Hin municipality mayor, to seek help from soldiers and border-patrol police to help affected residents.

Flat-bottomed boats were sent to take people and students out from worst-hit Pong Nares housing estate on Tuesday morning.

The mayor said the housing estate and other communities were in low-lying areas and had water drainage problems. Water pumps were installed to drain out floodwater from the areas.

The situation is expected to improve on Tuesday night if there is no more rain, he said.

I expect the situation hasn't improved then as it rained heavily again last night, certainly where I am out in Hin Lek Fai although we haven't any flooding here.

Just when it appeared to be the end of the rain a huge storm from the east, that built up rapidly, has just moved through Bangkok dumping a truck load of rain. This one only became apparent out around the airport about 30 minutes ago, and has already moved through.

The pattern is still the same, with a big high pressure area east of China feeding a north easterly flow towards the equator, where there are a line of low pressure areas all the way to India.

The CNN weather show this morning was saying that Java and the other lower Indonesian islands are in bad shape as their rainy season....isn't this year. He said all the rain they usually get is still further north, giving SEAsia more rain then normal this time of year. He had no prediction as to when and if things would shift south as it should be.
