The water will stagnate and may become dangerous to use if left sitting for a long period. Just how long depends on several factors, such as how clean it was to start with, the type of tank material, shaded or in the sun, etc., etc.
You could try K. Sang on 081 991 2677, or his shop, 032 51 1376. Have not seen him for awhile, and he does not speak English, but he does know what he is doing.

What you may need to do is have the new tank as your main feed of water, at least that way you won't have the stagnant water issue to worry about and on the basis that you're unlikely to get a power cut lasting more than a few hours, you will still be able to use the tank as a gravity feed.

How do they manage in the villages where rainwater is collected and stored for many months before being used for drinking and washing ? Those large pots they use keep the sun out and are covered but that's about all.Nereus wrote:The water will stagnate and may become dangerous to use if left sitting for a long period. Cast iron guts I suppose!chopsticks wrote:How do they manage in the villages where rainwater is collected and stored for many months before being used for drinking and washing ? Those large pots they use keep the sun out and are covered but that's about all.

As I posted, there are many reason:
Rain water is clean to start with(well, after the crap from the roof has been flushed away!)
Stoneware and /or tin tanks do not let in sunlight, which is a big part of the problem. Village jars are rarely plumbed in, so each time Somchai needs some nam he dips it out, which helps keep the water agitated and aerated. But I guess that the biggest thing is the quality of the water to start with.

Also people do die......my mother in law died through infected water using the big pot thing. I would think that after a couple of weeks the water should be replaced, or as others say plumb it in to your system so it is constantly changed. I'm finally getting mains water at my house and will use the large underground tank, but it has a ball cock system to keep it topped up. I'll still collect rainwater and use that as well.
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!
