They want 40 million Chinese and Indians to spend a quarter of a million dollars each. :duck:

Well the Indians are coming but I still think they've got quite a wait for the Chinese!

That sounds like a cry from General Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, but as I and others have been saying, ticket prices are going to scare a lot of people off, so the big numbers are a long time away

[Edit] Is this a regurgitation of the Anutin story, or a variation?

A new one to me. No mention of dual rates at hotels before.

Out of curiosity, what does any of this have to do with the health minister?

Dumb and dumber.

I'm probably repeating myself as I think I've pointed this our before. Tourist taxes are nothing new and are already charged, even in hotel prices, in several countries. It's not a 'Thai thing'.

But a tourist tax of 300 Baht at arrival is nothing compared to the dual rates of hotels which can make more than 1000 Baht per day.

Tourist taxes have been around for years, even in the UK. Thailand's proposals are nowhere near the most expensive:

41 countries with various forms of tourist taxes:

A comparison of the proposed tax in Thailand with other countries:
https://www.nationthailand.com/thai-des ... n/40011791

Some of that info is 2 or 3 years old.

This really isn't a big thing except amongst the regular complainers.

There is a difference between imposing a 'tax' on tourists against blatant dual pricing which happens all over Thailand.

The big difference is you can choose not to go for example to a National Park when on holiday. Unless you're going to sleep on the beach, you have no option but to pay dual pricing on your hotel.

I think a big point here is why the hell is the government sticking their noses into private enterprise? A hotel's business model and rate structure is decided upon by their corporate HQ, it has nothing to do with the government at all. Someone, or likely many, need to be taken down a few pegs and quickly before their heads swell even larger.
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Source
