Yellow-code businesses are those classified as moderately risky. Operators of these businesses must not only apply online before reopening their businesses but require an approval by the government first.

They include flea markets, fresh markets, shopping malls, food courts, beauty and hair salons, and medical and dental clinics. Some sports facilities such as swimming pools and badminton courts are also listed in this category.

The center added that the classification can be altered if the pandemic situation changes in the coming days.

Most privately owned small salons are opening anyway. Do you think they will wait for approval before they start earning money.

If in any country restrictions are lifted and then have to be re-imposed a few weeks later the psychological effect will be devastating. GET IT RIGHT!

I just noticed, this thread was opened by PeteC as long ago as JAN 18th. I follow world news pretty well but had no idea of the risk until mid-feb.

Thailand was the very first country to have an infection outside of China. Until then (and for a while after), it was believed it was just a Chinese problem.

Alcohol-industry organisations have asked the prime minister to lift the ban on selling alcohol, imposed as part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19. The request came in a proposal from seven organisations – led by the Thai Fruit Wine and Local Spirit Producer Association, Thailand Bartender Association, and Thai Wine Association – to ease alcohol-related restrictions.

The alcohol associations asked the government not to prolong the prohibition on sales beyond April 30, and allow beer and liquor to be sold via take-away and delivery services.

They also asked the government to ease the tax burden and help manage the destruction of spoiled liquor amid the Covid-19 crisis, when entertainment venues have been closed.

Meanwhile the associations want the government to lift the ban on the wholesale trade of alcohol, which they said is preventing producers from transporting their products to retailers where stocks can be safely stored in refrigerated conditions.

They also asked authorities to inform them in advance before announcing future alcohol-related orders.

The Excise Department has collected Bt132.236 billion in tax on alcohol so far this year, including Bt70.090 billion from beer and Bt62.146 billion from liquor.

Alcohol vendors asked Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Monday to allow for takeaway and delivery options instead of a complete ban on alcohol sales.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the request would not be considered.

Many provinces, including Bangkok, have extended its alcohol prohibition period until the end of April to stop people from breaking curfew.

Anutin said it was still too risky to allow the sale of alcohol. Without a vaccine, there is still the possibility of a second wave of infections, he said.

He said that the sales of alcohol would encourage people to congregate which could lead to a resurgence in new cases.

The vendors say, however, that a continue of the ban would result in staff redundancies.

Police on Tuesday morning rounded up 23 people - 12 Thais and 11 foreigners - for trespassing on Pattaya beach in violation of the emergency decree.

The Pattaya City has issued an ordinance under the executive decree for administration in emergency situations to temporarily prohibit people from using the Pattaya beach for various activities to stem the spread of the coronavirus, until the situation has improved.

Violators are liable to a jail term not exceeding one year and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht.

Thailand discovers 7 new coronavirus infections; second day of single-digit infections

Thailand’s government said on Tuesday that it had discovered 7 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infected to 2,938.

It is the second day in a row that new infection numbers have been in the single digits.

There was 2 new fatality with the death toll now at 54.

43 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of discharged patients to 2,652.

“This is good news but we must continue to be vigilant,” said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha will extend the State of Emergency act put in place to curtail the spread of Covid-19 by another month, the government said yesterday.

The government said the SOE extension means it will continue to restrict travel in and out of the kingdom, restrict travel between provinces, continue curfew measures and stop mass gatherings and events.

The government will also ease certain lockdown measures as the number of new infections drop.

The cabinet will officially announce all new measures by Tuesday evening.

NZ as of yesterday have relaxed many of their lock down restrictions but KEPT THE BORDERS CLOSED.
That last one is the key.

The 'curve' of new cases in NZ pretty much reflects the curve in Thailand. NZ had smaller numbers but they have a population of less than 5 million. Taking the population into consideration, Thailand has probably fared better than NZ. Yet, almost a total lock down is extended for another month in Thailand.

We should follow the NZ model. That makes a lot of sense. But ...... TIT!

Bunch of Juan King hypocrites the lot of 'em, couldn't organise a piss up in a Beer Chang factory

I've been thinking about the Thai healthcare system. All the rules and lockdown laws in western countries were made so that the healthcare system would prepare and be ready for what was coming. Now Thailand has had really few cases and very strict lockdown rules, but I cannot help having a feeling that their healthcare system has not taken this opportunity to prepare like many of the western countries. In other words Thai authorities have only strict rules and control of the people to fight this thing. They cannot handle a wave of infections and deaths even if they have had time to prepare. I really don't hope it's like this though!
