The blame lies with the two American cowboy owners,Gillett and Hicks, who have bled the club dry with the resultant huge debt.
Alonso sold for 30m,replaced with a guy out injured for 2 months for 18m.
Zidane, I'm not sure I agree with you. So Benitez bought a crock for 18mill and thats the owners fault?

There's been nowt but whinging by scousers about the Yanks (and Parry), but the manager does the buying and for the last few years he has filled the squad with players that are clearly not good enough. He has spent a lot of money.

I'm puzzled about the loyalty he gets from the fans - even in the european cup they won, his initial selection was iffy, changed at half-time, same against Spurs in the first game this season.

I'm really not convinced about him.

The fans are loyal because he's taken our club from average to one of the best teams in Europe who consistently beat the best sides in Europe.

If you want to see the progress he's made you only need to look at the squad he won the European cup with.

As for how much money he's spent, the side that started against Villa cost 92 million (The same as Ferdinand,Rooney and Berbatov) which averages at 8.36 million per player, now compare that with Chelsea and Uniteds last starting 11s.

Aquailani, would have cost a hell of alot more if fit.
We can't afford a £30 million player but have potentially got one, if he can put his problems behind him, albeit not for 6 weeks or so.

yes, of the Alonso money, meaning the yanks have taken any TV, tickets, sponsor or merchandise profits to pay off their own debts.

Champions League clubs don't generally have to sell players to spend and progress.

Gotta be something wrong with a club that can't attract a better class of sponsor!

Poor lad come off the pitch in tears tonight, according to Phil Thompson he played really well whilst the idiots were being abusive around him.

Another idiot under the circumstances, Stanislas, incited the Crowd more than once.

Some shocking footage on SSN with an advert for the new football hooligan film "The Firm" in between, I kid you not.

Sky News footage HERE

I expect I'll wake to front page news of several more stabbings and possibly worse.
West Ham and Millwall are going to be in a spot of bother with the FA.

Thanks, and BaaBaa also for the link. This is a big deal as without him I believe things swing towards MU in a big way. Pete

BaaBaa,
Thanks for the links, but I think you are being a bit harsh on Stanislas - a 19 year old die hard West Ham fan scores the equalising goal against their oldest and bitterest rivals in the dying minutes of a cup game; what do you expect him to do, not celebrate? Would you expect Gerrard to just turn round and shake his teammates hands if he scored the equaliser against Everton in the dying minutes of a cup match? He'd be running round the pitch like a madman, and Carragher would be there giving it large to the opposing fans with him.

While the stabbing (outside the ground) and violence (apparently also outside the ground) are to be deplored, the only thing I have heard that West Ham could be sanctioned for is fans running on the pitch after the equaliser, winning goals and full time, something that is a regular occurrence in many games between rivals, and particularly knock out matches. In a way I'm quite pleased that some of the passion remains in the game and hasn't been completely usurped by the prawn sandwich brigade, and by all accounts the atmosphere in the ground was electric.

It is also a bit rich for any Liverpool fan to criticise other clubs for the behaviour of their fans, given the history (and I'm thinking about Phil Thompson on Sky now rather than your good self).

Disgusting scenes. Fans intimidating Millwall players on the pitch. Pitch invasions. It seems the yobs won this game for West Ham or certainly played a big part in it. If the FA had any bollocks they should declare the result null and void, chuck West Ham out of this and any other cup competition for 3 or 4 years.

JD,
And the precedent for this is where exactly? Total over reaction to what happened inside the ground in my opinion. The morons who taunted the players and were violent should be individually punished and the policing and stewarding should be looked at but why exactly should the football club and its players be penalised for what happened? As I have said fans coming onto the pitch happens all the time in knock out games - every year in the playoffs from the various leagues or when rivals meet in cup games.

JD,
As a follow up to my last post, I guess in your eyes Southampton should have been kicked out of the league?
