I would be very surprised if that "karaoke" language could be understood by a Thai driver...
Approximative pronunciation, no tones, makes it really difficult to understand, if not impossible.
Apologies there Gerard,

As I stated at the start, there are better ways to say it. I put it in simplified, easy to use sentences. A beginner will not want complex sentences that would invite a discussion. I disagree that a driver would not understand the sentences.

Please give your better versions as they will be of help to people using mini-vans.

Sorry, I have no better version and I am not good at phonetics, so that yours is certainly better than mine would be.
Of course, short and simple sentences are required.
I still doubt that a foreigner will be able to pronounce these sentences, and without the right tones, thai is difficult to understand, even if the structure of the sentence is correct.

But I understand your intention to be of help to people using mini-vans.

:offtopic: This thread is to report road traffic accidents, not discuss karaoke language.

Very sad. 5am so might be a tired driver. Same same happens too often for me to get in those things. I have given up taking a van from Pattaya to Hua Hin due the excessive speed these guys travel at.

You can't guarantee your safety whatever way you travel, but the minivans seem to be the greatest risk and IMO not worth taking a chance just to save a relatively small amount of money

More on today's accident. I really, REALLY don't trust those gas cylinders used here. You never know if installed properly and I think no regulation or guidelines at all have been issued by an authority.

The Bangkok post is reporting it as LPG. There is a big difference with cylinders, as CNG is much higher pressure (around 3,000 psi), and therefore much stronger, with LPG at around 100 psi. At one time ALL the cylinders were imported, along with the conversion kits. But, of course, Thais know better and they can make their own!
But the problem is not so much the cylinders per se, but the installation of the gas piping. All of them are "supposed" to have a cut off solenoid at the tank outlet, but even if they have it the solenoid needs to be wired up correctly. Usually they are controlled by the ignition switch, so will not turn off until the key is off. On mine I have installed an inertia switch in the feed to the solenoid. In the event of a crash the solenoid at the tank will be closed immediately, a similar method to the existing switch with the original petrol system.

There are regulations covering both types of systems, but like everything else, mia phen ria!

This sounds callous, but they're certainly sharing the pain around and spreading the word on the level of fatalities on Thailand roads - Chinese, Russians, Vietnamese and so on.

Not that it will make any difference.

Four students were killed and 11 others injured in Nong Bua Lamphu province when a former school director suffered epileptic seizure and slammed into them in his car.

So at least 23 people in a pick-up truck, when are the authorities going to clamp down on this idiotic means of transporting people?

Car splits in two, driver unhurt

http://www.bangkokpost.com/most-recent/ ... ver-unhurt

several photos.................

PHITSANULOK — A businessman miraculously escaped death after he crashed his 36-million baht jet-black Lamborghini so forcefully that the vehicle was split into two.

.......................He said he was pushing the Lamborghini at about 150km per hour in heavy rain when the crash occurred. He said he careered off the slippery road and slammed into a tree at full speed. He then stepped out of the car, at which point he discovered it was in two pieces.

............Before the crash, the businessman said he stopped at a temple in Nakhonsawan province to make merit and his friend warned him that he should wear a Buddha amulet while driving a long distance. He then put on the amulet.

Mr Pitak told authorities it was a very rare amulet of a highly revered Buddhist monk, selling for millions of baht.
...........................................
And what are the police going to do about it? The imbecile admitted driving at 150 Km / hr, but it was ok because he had a Buddha amulet!
While there are pr---ks like this alive the road toll will never reduce. :guns:

From Northern Ireland but a few Thai organizations have picked up on it and posting it here with Thai comments. At least some effort to educate is being made. Can't embed, not YouTube. Pete
