On Vancouver Island they use fresh line-caught caught halibut. By far the best I have ever had, slabs of delicious white fish with no worms. Pricey but worth it.

John Dory is used also in a lot of restaurants on my side as a substitute for Cod. A bit thin usually, but good taste. Pete

That shite is sold in Canada as "Basa Fish". That's because no one outside the southern USA will buy catfish.

from the interweb thingy:

'Pacific Dory' or 'Basa' fillets are in fact imported catfish from Asia of no relation to the Dory family.

so they are saying its john dory when its really pacific dory.NICE.

I'll have to check the package wording closely when she buys next. I think she gets it at both Makro and Foodland over here. Never used Red Snapper so that's up for a try also. Pete

Just eaten at the new one in soi 80

Good fish, good batter, good real chips, all with tartar, vinegar and ketchup. Will do well as a bar delivery service for the soi IMO

I think it's permissible to have ketchup with fish and chips, as it is to have tartare sauce, but surely not both? Personally, just salt and vinegar does it for me with a good crunchy batter on the fish.

Oh I forgot. A big chunk of lime too

Personally I like lemon juice and tartar sauce on the fish and vinegar and salt on the chips with a smidgeon of ketchup on the side as an occasional chip dip. Mushies (Manchester Caviare) are of course the icing on the cake and of course should be accompanied by mint sauce

Now don't tell me I've left out Mayonnaise?

I like regular lemon on it also, but not the easiest thing to find here. I think the last time the wife brought some home she said they were either 30 or 40 baht each at Foodland or Villa. They were very big lemons though and one enough for 4 people having salmon. It was just about a year ago when she tasted real lemon for the first time in her life. No clue why they don't grow them here as could do easily. Pete

They normally sell them in Makro, I think about 70-80 baht a kilo so about half the price at 15-20 each.
