Earlier today I was talking with an ex-work colleague who lives in the UK and he was telling me that he and his wife had had their first jab and the second is due in about 6 weeks. I jokingly said for him to register me to get one and he said you can apply online using your NHS number - I told him I’m not sure I have one? Anyway, to cut a long story short, I looked on the internet how to apply to get your NHS number, I did that and lo and behold I now have my NHS number. I’m hoping to travel to the UK later this year so if all goes to plan, I will apply for a Covid vaccination once I get there.

Get registered by all means. When you'll get the vaccine is anyone's guess.

The country has procured 1 million doses of Sinovac and 117,000 of AstraZeneca vaccines so far.

That is at 31st of March. Much of that is going to border areas as it should and the rest is being 'shared' to 52 provinces. A change to the original plan to 'share' with 22 provinces.

Now let's see. What is the population of Thailand? ..... around 69 million.

Bearing in mind, that a vaccination requires 2 shots. Mmmmm yeh, we're in great shape!!

If one was travelling to UK next week or two for example, could you register for one now?
What is the wait time?
Did you check out the application online without pushing the button so to speak? Any terms stating muat be in UK to register etc etc

Secondly, if you could get a jab here before you went to the UK would you do so?

I didn’t try to book yet so not sure what would be required but on the basis that I was able to register to use the App and get my NHS number on line (and I had to give my Thai phone number to get a security code as part of the process) I’d guess you could book it.

As for getting a jab here, we’ll I have little faith that one will be available to farangs before the end of the year so hopefully I won’t need to consider that option, but if I did, then I would probably get one.

The proposal to allow tourists in without quarantine providing they have been vaccinated can have a few problems. It is said that they may still have to take a PCR test on arrival but not definite.

Considering the very small roll-out of vaccines in Thailand, this could open up a risk to the population. I'm sure they realise that NO vaccine gives 100% immunity, just like the 'flu jab. Vaccinated people can still catch the virus although symptoms will be milder and hospitalisation/death is off the menu. However, a 'protected' vaccinated person could still pass on the virus to an unprotected, unvaccinated individual, which covers almost all of the population here. Therefore vaccinated tourists could be quite a danger to locals here.

Am I missing something?

I've seen VAERS data mentioned many times in many different publications.

As @hhinner mentioned, anyone can submit reports to VAERS and as stated on the VAERS website:

VAERS accepts reports of adverse events following vaccination without judging the cause or seriousness of the event. VAERS is not designed to determine if a vaccine caused an adverse event.

The reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable.
