I'm not defending the UK government's handling of this crisis, particularly when it comes to care homes, but as has been repeatedly stated here and elsewhere, such bald comparisons are meaningless at the moment, and possibly permanently. Different countries have different mechanisms for recording deaths and many simply can't be trusted to give accurate figures.

Only 3 new cases today. One with contact from a returnee from Malaysia and the other two from returnee quarantine. So all 3 are basically 'imports'.

This is a strange story, at least to me. First, is that this disease for these people, one especially, went in cycles and he suffered for more than 7 weeks with improvements followed by relapses. Second, is that neither of them went in to get tested and the doctor said in the end "...you probably had the virus..."

Maybe they have never had it?

Since Boris announced that some restrictions may be lifted on Monday, London has returned to business as usual on the outside. Picnics in parks... sport, too! Groups. Sitting on benches. Interhouse travel (2020 didn't turn out great tbf ).

Boris is in a lose lose situation. If he'd locked everything up, including all foreign travel into the country, from the get go? Probably accused of human rights abuses. Over cautious. Probably racist.

Let it continue as normal with a few precautions, he'd be called a murderer (currently is by many already). Didn't save the people. Thought about the economy. Money.

I think he's tried to find a middle ground. We're probably closer to Sweden's approach. People can go out but try not to take the piss, please. Anything non essential, shut up shop and get free handouts until further notice.

Thailand has done incredibly well with the numbers. One of the best actually. Yet I can't imagine it's anything to do with any action that was taken.

Sorry, but figures around the world should be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt.....the bottom line is.....you don't test, you don't get the big picture, period.
I think the 1st world countries figures are probably more believable.....but the others, hmmm.
Here is a good site that shows a world league table, but again how can these figures be believed? especially in some of the poorer 3rd world countries and countries that are under dictatorship rulers

I agree what you're saying about figures. I mentioned Thailand and its 'figures' as an afterthought. Plus, if I didn't say something 'Thailand' it may not count.

Thus, I whacked something Thailand on the end.

Probably would have been sensible to have 2 threads for Covid 19 news. One for local and one for international. Not rocket science.

This thread is the general/international news one. And this one is the local rocket science Hua Hin one: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=38929

:offtopic: As moderators have guided, this thread is NOT for UK politics, it is for Covid19 news. PREFERABLY Thailand based since we are a Thailand website but all can be discussed providing it does not get into a political slinging match. Any further snide remarks and digs at how this forum is managed will result in account suspensions. Not really welcome back is it.

As if you would be welcoming me back regardless.

I think it will be interesting to see how weather changes affect the pandemic. If they do at all.

Countries that have struggled terribly in Europe are warming up. England included. Thailand and others are cooling down. Thailand's cool is our hot, mind.

Time will tell.

May make no difference at all.

Not sure just how you figure that out? It is not even mid summer yet and the daily temperature is increasing!
