They also say that it's highly unlikely to have come directly from bats (which implies not impossible) and that it was spread to humans through an intermediary. Based upon evidence of the spread of other corona viruses. It's reported that the corona virus found in animals closely match that found in humans. Certain animals are susceptible for harbouring a corona virus. A tiger, for example in a New York zoo contracted it. Lots of questions are 'up in the air' and because of the way Wuhan was locked down, we may never know.

South Korea scrambles to contain new coronavirus outbreak threatening Seoul
South Korean officials scrambled on Monday to contain a new coronavirus outbreak that is threatening to spread throughout the densely populated capital city of Seoul, leading the country to reconsider plans to reopen schools.

Officials reported 35 new infections across the country as of midnight on Sunday, the second consecutive day of new cases of that magnitude and the highest numbers in more than a month, reinforcing fears the country could be entering a second wave outbreak.

The 69 cases reported by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) over the past 48 hours were equivalent to the number of cases it recorded over the entire previous week.

Most of the new cases were linked to an outbreak at several Seoul nightclubs and bars. Authorities had tested 4,000 people who had patronised the night spots, but were still trying to track down around 3,000 more.

“Our top priority is to minimise the spread of the infections in the greater Seoul area,” Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun told a meeting with government officials on Monday.

GOV’T TO LAUNCH COVID-19 CONTACT-TRACING APPLICATION
Thailand’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA)’s spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin announced on Sunday that the kingdom will be launching a COVID-19 contact-tracing application in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.

“The Thai government will only want to monitor those who have had contact with the virus and not to pry into people’s privacy,” Taweesin said, responding to concerns over privacy.

“We want to urge people to download the app which the CCSA will later reveal this coming week,” said Taweesin.

He also said health authorities will organize virus testing for six risk groups.

They include medical personnel, newly suspected persons or those in state quarantine, car drivers in public transport, parcel deliverers, immigrant workers and those working in pubs, bars or other entertainment venues.

Why is it so hard to believe that they have benevolent intentions when anything like this gets proposed ...

^ Far more questions than answers TBH.

Far clearer advice for us in Wales and those in Scotland and NI IMHO.

There will be more detail given in tonight's briefing apparently - I would bloody well hope so!

PRAYUT ORDERS SURVEY ON LIFTING VIRUS EMERGENCY DECREE
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered a public survey to gather opinions on whether the emergency decree should be lifted, officials said Monday.

National security official Gen. Somsak Rungsita said the survey will be conducted by the National Intelligence Agency and the Internal Security Operation Command. It will cover questions regarding the next phase of business reopenings and public opinion on emergency decree, he said.

“The results from the survey will only be part of the factors to decide whether to revoke the emergency decree,” Somsak said. “We also have to consider the health and safety of citizens.”

Somsak said the decree is likely to be lifted by the end of May. However, he said this depends on many factors, especially how well citizens and businesses cooperate with the hygiene measures and the number of new cases of coronavirus infection reported in the country.

Just 2 new cases today. Zero deaths.

Both from contact tracing. BB, I'm sure will post the full briefing.

I reckon there'll be a zero result in the next few days.

Some very sad stats...

The UK death toll from Covid-19 has surpassed 40,000, according to official figures, with almost 10,000 care home residents now having died from coronavirus.

The figures cement the UK as the worst-affected country in Europe. Italy has recorded 30,739 deaths, Spain 26,744 and France 26,604, according to data collated by Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Germany has recorded 7,661 deaths.
Now all those figures above match exactly the published figures on Worldometers. However, the published deaths for the UK are 32,065. Is that a case of the 10,000 in care homes not being included?
