He must of replaced that Police chief with someone who will take action.
At 6:55 pm Friday, police equipped with M16 assault rifles were deployed to block a main road to the Suvarnahbhumi International Airport.
Police set up a road block on the Lard Krabang- Suvarnabhumi Road and did not allow any vehicle to pass through.
Been watching Thai News channel most of day and keep repeating police meeting showing off conviscated weapons, incl. guns, and these pipe contraptions that when assembled seem to fire like guns. Showing videos of trucks full of PAD thugs loaded up with weapons etc. (Yes, could be staged). but the point is they are making a big show BEFOREHAND of what they might be up against to justify the force they may have to use.
Getting their excuses in first sort of thing.

The PAD that want to fight should do the right thing and send out the normal protestors, tons of women there first before they go for it, otherwise the innocents will end up getting worst of it as usual.

Seems you are a confirmed PAD supported Miked

What do you think will happen if they get their way and a 70% nominated Govt is formed?

Said something about this on another post.
Who would do the nominating? Likely pressure groups such as a lawyers society, accountants, taxi drivers. You name the group they would all be in there and those who were succesful in getting their own PM (s) would be pushing legislation for their own profit with apropriate funding to get their legislation passed.

The 30 elected MP's would be getting bribed in all directions to support this or that bill and for the nominated MP's it would be you support our bill we will support yours.

Takes a lot of money to run a outfit like the PAD, who do you think is bankrolling them? the ones who would benefit most for the type of Govt they are proposing possibly?

As has been said the army wont let Toxin come back without facing justice and I am sure he knows that. I think he is getting a bit carried away now with what he thinks he can do, look at the threats he made against GB when they kicked him out.

The version of democracy in this country is no where near perfect by a long way and it must be given time to evolve, but even now it is better than what PAD want.

The PAD is a very small minority in this country and their threat that " the whole countrt will rise up againt you" is utter bull s*it as is their non violance statements. They are coming to the end of their time.

its not a question of support for the PAD. I'm not Thai and this is not my country. i have no vote, not allowed to own land and am only allowed here on a visa. i like it here though and will probably stay. if Mr T returns then I'm off. if Pad don't stop him then he will return and he will be more arrogant than ever. we all are aware of his ultimate ambition and he will probably achieve that, cause a civil war and that will destroy the country. if that's the other option then good luck to the PAD. far from perfect, along way from democracy but the best choice for Thailand.

Robby hh
think you must have misread my post." far from perfect, along way from democracy". given the choice, PAD or Mr T give me PAD any day. that does not make me a confirmed supporter, perhaps a reluctant supporter.

Latest:

1) The Metropolitan Police Bureau issued its first emergency statement Friday, asking protesters to leave the Don Mueang Airport immediately.
2) Sondhi Limthongkul, No-1 leader of People's Alliance for Democracy, told protesters not to believe that the People's Alliance for Democracy would give in and negotiate with police to move protesters out of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport .

So there's absolutely no need for any protestor to get hurt, just obey the law and walk away, no bloodshed neccessary.
You know the Police can be OTT from the teargas episode, right or wrong you know the risks and this time the Police have the right to prepare for the worst as your fellow protesters have been firing guns indiscriminately.

PAD leaders and fighters have told the women and old men to stay knowing there's a fair chance they'll get hurt. Class act.

They know the risks, you make your own decisions in life, if you stay and fight don't whinge the next day that it hurts.

Dumb and dumber

Post by Chas »

Dumb and dumber comes to mind as I watch the goings on. The PAD have become terrorists and the government hasn't a clue which way to turn. As much as I agree with their anti-Toxin stand. . taking the airports was the stupidest move imaginable and one that hurts tens of thousands of ordinary Thai folks. .from those hill tribe people selling their wooden frogs to the farmers who cant get produce moved before it rots to the staff of every hotel where major layoffs are in the works.

As I saw someone put it, Toxin stole billions from the Thai people. .the PAD are stealing this from them EVERY DAY they occupy the airports.

They never should have been allowed in and I can't think of a country on earth that would have just allowed such predictable massive damage to occur. . well, OK maybe Somalia.

I have zero sympathy for these people being paid 1000 baht a day to wave those little clappers. . .just as they have zero sympathy for all the other struggling Thai people all over the country who are being hurt by their actions. . to say nothing of national pride and being able to save face with other nations.

And dont start with the "this is not my country. . . yada yadda yadda" I am on topic with this thread. I have comments on Mumbai too, and a perfect right to make such comments in an appropriate forum. I do not have to be Indian to do so and I dont have to be Thai to have an opinion here.

Friday 5th. I'll see what happens over the weekend, if its the same situation I'll call Emirates, maybe fly to Malaysia and make my way from there.

A friend who should have flown on Wednesday cant get out until after Christmas now, he spends at least 4 months a year in Hua Hin (Mainly)

He's just said he's not going at all. As will many more.

1000 Baht is big money to many Thais

Think you need to dig deeper into their culture to understand where many are coming from

Sorry - end of lecture

BUT
it almost impossible for us Farangs to know where they are coming from regardless of how long we've been here and how integrated we feel we are

A very good friend who's been here 22 year and speaks fluent Thai is still learning

All we can do is sit back and watch

Nowt we can do about it and after all it s 'small beer' compared to what's happening on other parts of the globe

Soldier on

ps I'm an optimist. Sorry, wrong thread

pps Going to bed now. Wife thinks the Thai soaps are more important!!!!

RICHARD OF LOXLEY

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

That's a tight one, even if they clear them out tomorrow, might be a day or two of clean up and getting operations back online etc.
Good luck.

I have a mental image of you wearing a 'pool shirt every night of the week, if I spot you we can have a laugh about our recent 2 matches :D

Thai culture?

Post by Chas »

Somehow I dont think it is part of Thai culture for one small group of demonstrators to hold the entire country hostage to their whims and in doing so ruin the livelihoods and lives of a vastly larger number of their fellow citizens, say nothing of their beloved country's reputation. ( Thinking on a bit, I could say this exact same thing about the government of Burma!)
Of course 1000 baht is a lot of money . .my point was that they are there for the good money, not for more altruistic motives.

I have a very strong feeling it'll be over in the next couple of days, the army will be in control, the government disbanded and the airport open and operational by Tuesday. PAD have some very powerful allies and financial backers.

I did make preditcions for 2008 about this time last year and most of them have come true.

Reading between your lines Buksi, the Army will tell the Police not to go in and then do their thing.

I reckon/have a feeling the Police will go in Don Muaeng tonight which contradicts the above and I'm probably wrong as usual.

Either way just get it done, with least bloodshed asap pleeeeeeease.

Amen to that, its like pulling a bad tooth, its gonna hurt but it needs to go for the good of the mouth - that goes for the government and the PAD, so if the big green dentist can pull two bad teeth at the same time this will all be over.
