Because they won by unfair means.
Are you telling me that the young Millwall players were not intimidated by opposing fans invading the pitch and running at them. The game should have been called off then and there.
West Ham fans cheated that one for the club - or is that acceptable for you. I'm sure if it was the other way around, you would complaining this morning that the fans cheated the game away from your lot.
Of course the club should be penalised, if it isn't, then this yobbish behavior will continue.

JD,
None of the reports I have read have made any mention of this 'winning by unfair means' you hark on about. The equalising goal three minutes from full time sparked the first group of 'fans' to come on the pitch but the reaction of the vast majority of the West Ham fans (who booed and shouted for them to get off) apparently stopped them from continuing and they withdrew or were nabbed. The second goal saw a repeat of this, as did the third apparently. It is not clear from the footage whether it is from during or after the game ended that the pictures of 'fans' taunting the Millwall players occurred so I think you are making both a hasty judgement as well as a knee jerk one. The appropriate way to deal with things like this is to identify and ban the individuals (easily done now apparently), as well as prosecute where appropriate, and investigate the policing and stewarding. Some reports I have read suggest that the trouble mainly started when news of the stabbing outside the ground circulated, with both sets of supporters believing that it was one of 'theirs', although I still haven't read which team the unfortunate victim actually supports, not that it really matters.

Pete, to get up to date news on every Premiership club I click on to Daily Mail.com. In the sports section you can click on to the badge of your chosen club and it will show every article printed about that club, including anything written in the last hour. Hope this helps.

can't really see how west ham have cheated in any way
the police presence & additional stewarding was clearly high profile but when you have so many fans (of both clubs!!) hell bent on mayhem & disorder, theres only so much they can do, especially inside the ground
it was shocking, but hardly unexpected considering the history & bad blood between the two sets of fans
apparently, the worst of the trouble was outside of the ground whilst the game was being played
with all the cctv footage, i'm sure there'll be a number of early morning wake up raids over the coming weeks for those involved

Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
There'll probably be some kind of penalty imposed on WHU for incidents INSIDE the ground, a daft fine or maybe at worst (but doubt it) the next match behind closed doors.
The home club are responsible for the events inside the ground, period. They pay and deploy the amount of stewards and police, the police are responsible outside the grounds, un-paid by clubs.
Clubs have always tried to cut the police costs by letting the outside police in during matches, by the sounds of reports they were outside containing trouble throughout the match, then maybe a number of police did not make it in during the match as expected. Maybe this added to events!?
Fans invading the pitch is stewards responsibility, not the polices'. Either way WH were responsible for disturbances inside, they could have done any number of things to prevent pitch invasions but decided not too probably due to money, just as other clubs do same. Not a WH owned problem. It happens ocassionally and just happened to be at WH this time round.

Then he has about 8 years of experience in knowing exactly what his actions could help to incite. He would know better than most on the pitch, no excuses just cos he's 19, although many others would do the same at any of our clubs.Wanderlust wrote:I think you are being a bit harsh on Stanislas - a 19 year old die hard West Ham fan scores the equalising goal against their oldest and bitterest rivals in the dying minutes of a cup game; what do you expect him to do, not celebrateBaaBaa. wrote:Another idiot under the circumstances, Stanislas, incited the Crowd more than once.

Arsenal seemed to perform well against Celtic. I know Celtic is no MU, but this is still a difficult match coming up to decide upon. Pete

Look, as bad as it looked on TV, this was always going to kick off at some stage and there was nothing the police or anyone could have done to stop it.
Someone said on the TV yesterday it was as though Green Street and The Football Factory had actually come alive and been reenacted and that every retired football hard man from the East End of London came out of retirement and was up for it on both sides.
It has to be stressed that Millwall had less than 3,000 fans in the ground, how hard can it be to control them with proper stewarding and policing.
After years of no visible trouble at games, this does not look good, but I do not think that it will have any serious affect on people attending games.
West Ham will get fined for the pitch invasions, but cannot see any change to the result etc. In a couple of weeks all will be forgoten and life will go on.
The 1st lot on the pitch came 3mins from time, so there is no way that could have really affected the result really, and as for having a go at the West Ham guy celebrating his two goals, what else is he expected to do.
So much passion has been taken from the game by the PC brigade, it was refreshing to see a bit of old fashioned enjoyment by young players enjoying the chances they are given in the 1st team and making the most of it.
I remember going to my 1st game at Chelsea for 25 years when I went back to the UK 3 years ago. The main thing I noticed was the lack of atmosphere in the ground due to the new all seating systems and limiting the away supporters to minimal ticketing allowances.
Years ago match day atmosphere was enhanced by large away supporter crowds that used to come down to Chelsea. These days they are lucky to get 2000-3000 tickets for the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham etc, so there goes a lot of your match day atmosphere.
The day out was still good, great fun in the pubs on the way up to London, before the game and after the game (nothing had changed there), but was very disappointed with the sterile atmosphere once inside the ground.
You seemed to get frowned on by all the parents with their kids in the crowd if you started having ago at the ref or the opposing players, and got disapproving looks when bringing beers back for my mates at half time.
Just wasn't the enjoyable atmosphere inside the ground of days gone past.
Still we all have the next round to look forward to, the chance of Chelsea v West Ham or Leeds could be an interesting tie if it comes out the hat.

Always Borrow Money from a Pesimist. "They Never Expect it Back"
If they were all thugs, it could be quite a challenge.Millwall had less than 3,000 fans in the ground, how hard can it be to control them with proper stewarding and policing.
I certainly hope so. I remember the times when eg Chelsea went somewhere and their fans? wrecked 10 pubs, Manchester Utds fans? would then go somewhere and wreck 15 pubs and 2 off licenses as well. It became a cycle of escalating violence, with the big names trying to stay top of that league. In a couple of weeks all will be forgoten and life will go on.
Probably the last thing they require eg the Chelsea hooligan element will want to prove that they are tougher than West Ham.Still we all have the next round to look forward to, the chance of Chelsea v West Ham or Leeds could be an interesting tie if it comes out the hat.
